I recently purchased a ati HD 2600XT (Well if i could see the future id have saved up for a few more months and purchased a 8800 GT instead:().

The problem. My standard Aopen 300w PSU sucks (I need min 350w).

1.)Should I buy a 350 watt?

2.)Will that be able to handle say...a 9800 GT:cool: "IF" I upgrade in a few monts?

3.)Or do i go for something more powerfull to be safe? (maybe 650watt)

4.)I dont intend on setting up SLI,so what PSU will be "future proof"

I'd say look at getting a quality ~500W PSU, which should handle the HD2600XT and the 9800GT comfortably. I personally like Thermaltake, Coolermaster and AOpen PSUs :D

Welcome to the forums :)

Should i make a fuss about whetherthe psu has modularised cable management & passive/intelligent (Laptop style cooling) cooling or not:confused:

Modular PSUs cost a bit more, but they are a lot tidier. It's your choice whether the tidiness justifies the extra cost :) But you should definitely look at getting a PSU with a high efficiency %, higher is better (I'm no electrics expert, though) ;)

EDIT: And if you see the pic I posted about my PC you'd see I don't care too much about keeping my PC tidy :p

I ran my current system with a Aopen 400W Max (350W std) without any problems. And I used to run another system which is more demanding in power output with the same PSU.

Although I have changed to a modular PSU (refer to signature) to be safe with the new HDs I am adding on.

Useful info indeed! I think it should be posted in the "Best graphics card for your money" thread as well, or maybe added to the FAQ :)

ROFLMAO!!!Officially the untidiest ive seen.
doesnt that affect your airflow?
I heard untidy cabling has a slight impact on airflow.but your cables resembles a tarantula.
; )
Im thinking of going after an OCZ StealthXStream Power Supply - 600w
Currently on a tight budget..

How could I miss this one when I decided to buy the PSU....I would definitely get the OCZ if I saw it.

I think if you take the side panel off and no big fan blowing onto the MB, it will somehow affect the airflow, I saw reviews stateing the NB temp was much higher when side panel removed than it's intact......

Thnx
so it has this big 120mm fan ontop.Wont that be useless in most cases since it would be blowing directly against the roof of the case

Well, with the new cases where you mount the PSU at the bottom of the case I doubt whether it'll be a problem (unless you have an old case, of course) :)

A lot of the good dealers online only make 5% profit.

The 120mm fan is used to suck air from chassis into PSU and push it out at the back......
