Push to Talk(PTT)

I have Push to Talk on my Nokia, How do I use it? Has anyone tried it? One more last question, Is it cost effective?

Not free at all. Afaik there are monthly costs and then the GPRS/etc costs as well. It turns your phone into a kind of Walkie talkie.

Not getting anything on MTN re PTT. They had it, found the prices all over myadsl too.

ADT's armed response officers use PTT. looks cool. don't know how it works though.

Hmm, ok good for you, I asked MTN a couple of weeks ago and the answer was no, must have missed the launch then...sad, it sounds cool to use.

I don't know which company they use for the PTT service, but I don't think it's anything that MTN or Vodacom can offer them.

Yeah, it's here. Works exactly the same as a walkie talkie (or almost)

I remember there was a news article about PTT launch on voda a while back but it was costly and monthly contract which made it costly. Maybe thats why its disappeared.

We've had PTT on Vodacom for quite a while, guess around 2 years. But it's normally set up for a specific customer who needs it as an enterprise service.

The big reason we never launched it as a consumer service was / is the compatibility issues between different vendor handsets.

Perhaps a little OT, but does GoogleTalk/Fring/Skype not have the ability for PTT?

What would the cost be if this were possible?
Would it make sense?

Guess you could use the new SVS (Short Voice Service) as a slightly more crude PTT service.

Would actually like to mess around with PTT apps on a phone.
Well the time draws near for me to get a phone again - 5 months without one - I wonder what the transition will be like getting back to the cellular domain?
