Push to Talk(PTT)

Yeah been looking through that thread a bit earlier, would not find that specific product appealing though.

Would actually like to mess around with PTT apps on a phone.
Well the time draws near for me to get a phone again - 5 months without one - I wonder what the transition will be like getting back to the cellular domain? :p :D

WHAT???

LOL yes, there is no way I can go 5 hours without my phone, let alone 5 moths. I wonder how he did it?

My dear old SE W900i was taken from me (stolen) in June - a month before the contract expired and I was so pissed that I thought I wouldn't bother again. Was fine without it, but then friends started bitching and bought one off of Henry.

That phone I left in the restroom of the Caledon Casino (very drunk, don't go there :p ) and so I thought perhaps it was a sign to be without it :D

So its been interesting, but quiet (nice). Even make use of public phones every now and then lol :D Just my landline at the office and at home.

Have to get myself a decent phone for the interim though as I've finally got myself ready to go to Malta (yes v3g its kicking into action now :p ) and my prospective employer is having a mission getting hold of me :o

The plan was always that I'd stay without a cell on this side and get myself something new in Europe - damn Xperia1 is taking forever to get launched :(

We've had PTT on Vodacom for quite a while, guess around 2 years. But it's normally set up for a specific customer who needs it as an enterprise service.

The big reason we never launched it as a consumer service was / is the compatibility issues between different vendor handsets.

Or because you have not found a suitable way to milk enough profit from it ? PTT works fine in most other countries.

Can you PTT between the various providers or is it an on-net only service?

I would think as they're only setting it up for their specific enterprise clients, it would only be on net.
That and the fact that the other operators are not making use of it... I may be wrong though ;)
