Put down that cellphone while driving

Saw traffic slowing down towards Gilloolys yesterday, and thought there was a broken down truck (again) or something. Turns out it was some bitch texting away looking down at her phone - on the ****ing highway during peak hour traffic! Cars ahead of her had already moved about 100m away.
I think the okes texting while driving are 100× worse than dronk drivers...

Well I put it down to bad policing. They have constant roadblocks in conjunction with e-toll police and would rather concentrate on that. I see lots of Metro, SAPS and NTP's talking on cells whilst driving and without seatbelts by the way.

I had a BT unit installed and it works for me and I try not to make calls but rather receive them whilst driving. Anything other than calls is a no no.

It astounds me the amount of cars with BT being factory fitted and the drivers still need the phone against their ear.

just a thought here - you guys are more technically minded so you'll know if it's possible or not?

here's an example.

you driving to work yakking away on the cell - is it not possible to get software that detects the signal is been transferred from tower to tower?

maybe cut the call or interrupt the call with a warning or start billing the call at R100 a minute as a fine?

And if you are in a train/bus/taxi or is not a driver in a car?

Or using the BT kit in your car?

The problem with traffic in South Africa is a lack of law enforcement. People treat the road rules as optional because they have no reason to adhere to them. How many times do you see people not using their indicators, driving well above the speed limit, overtaking on solid lines, etc?

Get people to obey the rules of the road and then we can start discussing which are the most dangerous.

SA needs a zero tolerance with respect to traffic laws and other crimes as well as traffic fines being scaled up based on the value of your assets/car.

A person driving a million rand car doesnt bat their eyelids when they fined R500 I've realised.. the whole point of the fine is to make people thin twice about transgressing.. if it were based on their net work or vehicle with impound until paid.. watch how fast people adhere

You don't need software. Just sign up with Cell C and it happens on it's own.

Question - are the Cape Town traffic cops still impounding cellphones, caused quite a stir last year.

I think they stopped it although I wish they would do it for the whole country.

Ok, I have a rider for this damn topic from this morning. Can pedestrians and jay walkers also please get off their f****** phones when crossing streets and watch the incoming cars!!!.

/rant over.

Dude, I hate it when I walk around the office and I have to dodge people on their phones. They walk, eyes fixed on their phones and everyone else has to get out of their way. I'm going to start kicking cellphones out of peoples hands.

I'm quite passive aggressive so after getting tired of ALWAYS having to step out of my way to avoid other people walking into me I have no started to stand still when someone approaches and just brace my shoulder (since im 100kgs) when they walk into me unnoticed. Yeah, I'm a dick.
