No, its not a PITA..

Put the bloody plate back where it legally belongs. We are all required to have license plates front and back. Just because you think it looks terrible is just wrong on every level, plus of course I can almost be sure your other motivation is to avoid the speeding fines and such that you probably should regularly get.

I don't have a plate on the front of my car (Alfa) because it looks terrible (vain I know) but I keep the plate on my back seat. The actual plate is too big for the front of my car anyway. This is going to be a proper PITA.

About darn time. The number of plate less speedsters on the N3 is ridiculous.

How does your number plate fall off if it's riveted to the body?

Aren't they supposed to be pop-riveted on?

Granted it is, just pointing out number plates falling off shouldn't really be an issue.

The car was supplied from the dealer with the number plate attached to the backing plate via five strips of double sided tape. I had to strip of the sticky mess from the backing plate when I stuck the new plate down with about ten strips of fresh double sided tape. The rear plate was attached in the same way.

I was not aware that it had to be riveted to the body. Even if it was riveted to the body some %*!$ could still rip it off, just like I found my antenna ripped out after a night out, what then, still my fault?

Thing is there will still be another plate on the car, the license is up to date, my drivers license is valid, I've not had a fine in 9 years. Surely they can see I'm not a trouble maker, the car is not stolen, I don't have any outstanding fines etc by simply checking the remaining back plate, license disc, engine number or vin. It's easy making a criminal & cash cow out of a easy target, just the way things work.

I had a Mazda Astina which only had space in the front for a mini-sized plate.

In response to everyone else. The car is 2nd hand and was bought with the number plate on the front off. At the dealership he showed me the size of the plate and said it was too big to put on anyway, it wrapped round the side of the car. So it just never got put on. Got pulled over at a road block once or twice in Jhb but I showed them the plate didn't fit and they all just let me off. I haven't been stopped yet in Cape Town, *touches wood*, and I have been here for 10 months. Also I have seen plenty of cars, especially Alfas, without the front plates. It isn't justifying it but is done by quite a few Alfa drivers.

Design would be my guess. Firstly where would you put it? Secondly, image the drag it would cause and throw the bike off balance to have a flat surface plonked on the face of a bike.

There is a big black jaguar in the clifton / bantry bay / sea point area - often at la perla restaurant.
The owner used to live around the corner from me.
The car is about 3 yrs old & has never, never ever, had a front number plate !
Seems it's owner simply refuses to put one on.
