Who has a Core 2 Quad Q8300? How far can one safely overclock the CPU with only the stock fan? Will buy an aftermarket cooling system later on. Please post your FSB clocks, voltages, DRAM frequencies, Ram cycles, CPU and case temperatures, etc. to give me and others with Q8300 an idea of how far the chip can be pushed.
I have a
- LGA775 G31 motherboard by Foxconn. BIOS allows me to change the FSB clock speeds, vCore voltages, PCI clock speeds, DRAM frequency, and RAS cycles.
- Core 2 Quad Q8300 CPU, with a stock speed of 2,5 GHz per core and 4MB of L2 cache.
- Kingston 4GB DDR2 800MHz Ram, 1 stick with CL5 the other CL6. Does this make a huge difference? Will both default on the worst clock cycle between the two, aka CL6?
So far I managed to overclock the CPU from 2,5GHz to 2,75GHz by upping the FSB from 333 to 370, and upping vCore to 1,28V. Max recommended voltage by Intel is 1,34V. Temperatures still stable at max 59degC under 100% load. Max recommended temperature by Intel is 71degC.
I overclocked the Ram (or rather got it to it's actual speed) from the "default" 533MHz, to it's stated clock of 800MHz, and got the clock cycle down from 6 to 5. On 4 it resets the BIOS.
