Q9450 Arrival Date

So I guess I saved a lot - R3100 vs R3750 = R650 - naas, I can buy Jonny Walker Malt Blue with my savings.... :D

Where do you buy your Johnny Blue from?????? I also only want to spend R 650 on a bottle of the good stuff!!!!

This chip will fianlly complete my almost 25 grand so far build. I can't wait to plug this in, power up, and be happy with my pc for the next 4 or so years.

25 grand? What do you have in there? Plutonium powered processor?

I got the chip from Prophecy on Wednesday, even though it wasn't quite the boxed package I expected. It was the chip, plus a heatsink, in the normal plastic holder. However, there was no actual box, and the insert was wrong, as I have a Core 2 Quad, not duo.

Odd, but in the end, I got the chip, and that's what matters.

It's not all that hard spending 25 large on a computer. Really not hard at all.

I won't derail this thread with the particulars of my system. It is currently alive, I just need to tweak and tune it this weekend, sort our driver issues etc...

Once that's done, I'll post a new thread in the main section of this forum.

Believe me, it's very very easy to spend that kind of money, it happens without you even knowing it.

The Q9450 rocks, my temperatures was about 20 degrees while idle. That was checked in the BIOS. Will monitor under Windows when I get a chance

If you aren't careful you might just get some ice crystals forming on your motherboard! :D

My Q6600 stays quite cool as well. I'm glad Intel finally got their heating problem sorted out. I've always been an AMD fan, but the Phenom just didn't cut it.

now just wait for the new intel chips to come out and there goes another 25K.

I think you have to be a registered CC or something to register with Frontosa etc.

Not upgrading for 2 years, quite happy with my system :)

they'll have dual quad cores by then anyways :P

Hey dude - someone should've called you / emailed you about that before they shipped, I'm sorry if they didn't! Basically, because Boxed versions have been hard to get stock of we've been selling the tray version with a stock Intel cooler + manual (don't know why you got the wrong manual :P) and then covering the extension of the warranty ourselves (normal warranty on a tray version - 3 months). Basically it means you get the full boxed version, earlier :D

Q9450 is such a wkd processor, OCd to 3.2Ghz on GA-P35-S3L v2.0 Mobo.
(needed +0.2V on FSB and 0.2V on Northbridge - coz it's a cheap board)

Considering I had a P4 940D (one of the first dual cores), I can see a noticable improvement. Just as an example - Note, XFX 8800GT standard edition.

P4 940D - 3dMark06 score: 7140
Q9450 - 3dMark06 score: 13124

OMG, thats almost double the score.
Not only that, the frame rate of ALL games is WAY up, encoding is seriously faster and the processors hottest temp so far OCd is 32*C. (I do have a thermalrite 120Ultra Extreme cooler though).

I am well impressed, I will be posting a review on grrr coza web site soon - ie. next two days or so.
