Quad-Core AMD Opteron

I think I'll stick to Xeon processors, thank you very much :D

in some things intel is king and in other amd is, it all depends on what you doing.
 
this is very good by amd

though intel own the performance market this cpu should run a server just fine and with low power should be a big seller

tns in all things intel is better my man
stop living in the past
 
Although I think AMD is cr@p, they are needed for competition and I'm glad they're there.

Can you imagine what will happen if Intel were the only CPU manufacturer? Well....just look at what Telkom. Same thing would happen.

Bad service, bad quality, poor delivery times and exorbitant prices!

Well AMD is not that much of a competitor for Intel anymore. Used to be, but that was in the old days. Luckily for us Intel strives on performance, good pruducts and good service.

go to tomshardware.com and look for any CPU review with benchmarks.
The Intel CPU's are the blue bars, usually at the top, and AMD the green, usually at the bottom :p
 
In the server market, it's not just about blue and green bars. Power consumption, heat etc also come into it. A client of ours got a couple of top of the range servers a year or so back. The AMD ones (250K each) was almost half the price of the Intel one (R400K each). Thats a big difference.
 
That's like saying you can get a Golf GTI for half the price of a BMW M3. They both have 4 wheels and both can get from A to B, but we know where the real difference is...

The performance difference between the two servers was less then 10%. Just because you pay more for something, that does not make it better. The company (a large bank) is still running with the same systems and have not had any problems.
 
raw performance intel might be slightly better ,cost and performance now there amd comes into play. mmm quad core intel and a Phenom amd i think i'll take the latter. btw i have a intel core 2due 3.xx at work so :P
