Quad core question

No was just a fanboi comment:rolleyes: *sigh*

The Q9300 should understandably be faster clock for clock than the Q6600 in some cases, but I'd hardly go so far as to say that the Kentsfield sucks... :p

In fact, I think that the Q6600 is one of the best CPUs that Intel has made recently. And according to the latest Rectron price list:
Q6600 R1,729 excluding VAT
Q9300 R2,299 excluding VAT
(I'm sure you can get both cheaper from somewhere else, so don't bother to let me know :D)

I'd say the Q6600 has a better price/performance ratio :)

Most games don't have quad core support as of yet, but will in the future so I think it's a good investment! ;)

...we are already in that future :p

-its been imminent since vooodooo sli

I agree. I worked the Q9300 to have on a total speed, 5% more performance based on clock speed, not FSB, for 30% more cost (not to be taken literally, but should give an idea).

So you guys think its better to get a Q6600 overclock it to 3Ghz than a E8400 (Stock at 3Ghz)

Ive been looking at benchmarks and it seems that most games at the moment actually perform better with the E8400 (Most probably because of the higher Mhz) than the Q6600, but if you would push it to 3Ghz it would basically perform the same or better...

Depending on how well the application uses multi-threading?

u can always OC at a later stage if it's not fast enuff...
but u cant add more cores :D

get da q6600

I would say have a go for the Q6600, Prices have come down alot!

Investment and computer parts really don't go together IMO :/ you need a satisfactory system that will last you a year and a half at most and thats how you buy and treat it. So buying a quad processor right now today would be a waste :/ that is if duals are much cheaper but I haven't been following prices and what not lately.

A long while back when I got my spanking new AMD 4200+ dual and motherboard socket 939 just a few months later it turned out I could not get a better processor for the socket worth anything to go nuts about :( so my PC already felt redundant.

Asus P5kse goes for R1300 at prophecy plus free shipping, I got myself one, perfect for overclocking.

Why did you choose the Q6700 btw?

His probably thinking the clock speed is higher? But the 6700 is a bit more expensive... Dont know ;) Would have gone with the Q6600 and overclocked it far beyond the Q6700 (How overclockable is it?) Should be just as good?

It was a gift and I had a choice of the Q6700 or the Q9300 so I took the Q6700 or should I say I had a choice of a new proc for around R2500.

If the Q6600 OC's well then the Q6700 should get further.

Am I wrong?
