Can someone please hack id Software or Raven, and get us a copy :P

I kid, I kid. Seriously though, its the only FPS game I'm keen to sniff over its engine and look at..

Shouldn't be long now. Damn their security.. :)

I'm really hoping it'll be toward the end of October, to give me time to settle in London.
Sounds odd, but with Quake2, Quake3 and Doom3, I was in the UK on holiday when they were released, missing the initial excitement.

I still remember being on IRC when the Q1 test was released - back in 1995 ?
The net was a different place then. Quake1 changed the face of gaming for me. Prior to that, it was Pirates and Civilisation - I got into Doom late, just before Q1 test.
QuakeII I purchased in the UK, along with a Voodoo card, my first 3D one and I had to wait 2 weeks to play it. Ditto for Quake3.

Drives me nuts !

Wonder in my laptop will be able to play it ... ;)

you should see how Prey looks with ID's new engine... i will only get Quake IV for its multiplayer and rely on FEAR and Prey to mesmerize me in the single player mode... thus far Quake IV's AI is bantha fodder as per previews on the net...

yeah, in 1997 it was :P its almost done now and it looks AWESOME! it makes very clever use of portals to totally confuse the crap out of you and it just simply looks brilliant, with the main character being able to do the whole 'out of body' thing, where the soul goes forth and whoops butt!

weird as hell

heck... i am only getting quake 4 for its multiplayer, single players wise i might be getting FEAR as Quake's single player has never been its forte...

anyone know who the lucky local distributor is, that's undoubtedly going to screw up the local release?
Technically if its released here on the same day as elsewhere, I'll probably go buy it - if however the local distributor decides to be a moron, and the release is delayed, then I figure I'll take advantage of the many versions that are going to spread online within hours of its official release..

'The best way to fight piracy, is to release everything - music, films, games - as fast as the rest of the world gets it, at a similar price. Then you might 'beat' piracy. Otherwise, piracy remains a good viable alternative to provincial wankers' profiteering and pretending to be doing us a favour as they rip us off.'

BT Games says the ETA for Q4 is on the 27 or 28 Oct LGM. :(

I know how you feel. More then likely I'll have a "online version" way before that. But I pre-Ordered mine already along with FEAR which comes out a week before Q4. Reason being I'd like to play it online.

heh, anyone remember the thousands upon thousands of leechers at Suprnova when Doom3 finally appeared? 1 file, 16000 leechers :)
methinks Quake 4'll be a similar bit of chaos for a while..
I figure within 24 hours of its release, its going to be locally available online (naturally I'll grab both as they emerge)

If they're continuing with the Q2 story, can't wait - as Q2 had a certain mood to it, despite all the damn criss-crossing back and forth over the same levels, to progress..

The local distributors should've made extra plans, and shipped in copies to sync with the global release - yet again, there's going to be tens of thousands of local folks who'll grab the warez version, and won't bother to buy the game when it appears almost a week after everyone else in the world has it.
A week is a VERY long time for netizens. So Megarom could've spent a bit more money and prepared in advance, and sold a lot more copies.. instead, watch them whine in a month or two about piracy ruining their sales - when all they needed to do, was make sure that one or two main shops in each city center got copies on the same day as the rest of the world.

i would rather wait and get the legit copy... have got other games to finish until Quake 4 is OFFICIALY out for sale in SA...

Megarom are actually usually very good - 1000 times better than Stir Krazicor.

Activision titles are usually available within a few days of UK release, or even the next day, which for South Africa, is incredible !

Alas, I'll be getting it in the UK, but probably won't have a PC beefy enough to play the damn game for some time - had to downgrade my laptop choice due to unexpected financial constraints (read - overestimated my funds) - and will end up with a SIS graphics solution on the laptop.

Yep - SIS MAN !

hmmm, maybe I'll take a risk anyway and get the one I wanted ...

After all, this is QUAKE4 we're talking about - who gives a **** if I don't have a roof over my head come December, so long as I can play quake4 ! :D

anybody know what system specs required?
me prays my 9600xt will cut it

Looks like the release has been pushed up to 21Oct. Same day as FEAR. :)

@rburley: I checked out their website: http://www.quake4game.com/ (not a bandwidth friendly one - dialup users beware). Tried to copy and paste the specs but it doesn't work. :( I didn't see the 9600 in the specs, only from 9700 but they've got the GeForce 4/Ti there so I don't think you will have a problem.

multiplayer wise YES... single player... i think a so so in that department... just get FEAR for the single player experience.. albeit from my online time with the FEAR MP demo its a LOT of fun!
