Quake 4

Don't diss the guys at BT. They aren't distributors, they receive stock from distributors and sell to us for a much better price then anywhere else. They are like any other store out there. It's not their fault they can't get stock.

Are you blaming the ISPs or Telkom for the price increase? Same thing here.

Seeing as the local distributors are too stupid and greedy, to bring titles in when they should be - I guess folks will find ahem, 'alt' methods to get the game.

PS: I notice the indication of the morons at work in the local game industry:
" Due to a situation beyond our control we have been left with no alternative but to move both Quake V and Call of Duty 2.."

Its always easy to blame. Actually the local distributors are trying to make favours for us gamers by attempting to keep the original prices as they are.

As for obtaining the game via other means... doenst make it for me. I rather wait and get the game legit, dont care if the usual pirate line of "i am just trying it and then if i like i will get it" will fit here. Piracy is piracy.

Besides, i am looking at getting the game for online play and thus it has to be legit.

Piracy is piracy yes - and 'unacceptable delays in distribution of goods' ( that we all would be happy to pay for IF IT WAS HERE TO BE BOUGHT) - is equally just an 'unacceptable delay in distribution of goods.'

As for blaming the local distributors - its our democratic right to free speech, to call them stupid bastards for any reason we feel like - but ESPECIALLY for making a press release that can't even get the name of the game they're talking about, right, (duh)
- as well as for thinking that, making excuses for delaying a product that everyone else in the world managed to get delivered on time, cuts any ice.

These are stupid distributors of a consumer product, who for whatever reason, clearly don't care about ensuring that we potential customers are provided with what we want, on the same timescale that seems easy for every other part of the world to operate with.

Therefore, the local distributor(s) have no good training in business, supply and demand - or an understanding of consumer needs - and based on their shoddy and insufficiently explanatory press release for 'Quake Five' - they're a third rate operation who think we're as stupid as they are.
:P

Mmm... it seems you get all your games from other means if you diss SA distributors like that.

Democratic right? excuse to blame thats what i think of your democratic right.

You seem to forget that us in SA are even lucky some distributors CARE about trying to import games for gamers. But seeing your attitude is negative all the way i wont even argue with you since its your democratic right to post nonsense.

yay! got my Quake 4 and CoD2 copies last night!

I have to admit Q4 looks prettier than i expected and runs smooth as well @ 1280x1024 with 4xAA at High Quality with OpenAL enabled. :D

now to find people to frag online.... sigh.... :p

I've ordered it, but no joy as yet. I'm going to Vienna in shortly, so maybe I will just pick it up there (www.cosmos.at). I get most of my music this way in anycase.

it seems SA release only slated for the 25th of November, same date for CoD2 as well. Activision really buggered us up in SA... :(

got a normal AMD XP +3200, 1GB RAM, 6800GT @ 380/1080

i am actually impressed with the GFX and still have to test the multiplayer with somebody... but smooth and nice bright textures... just need to get use do the Q3 Arena pace in the game again... :p

i got it from a friend who went over to the US... had to... :D

Do you STILL not have the game over there ?

That is truly piss-poor of the distributors - megarom I believe ?

Sent out an email to them :-

Shockingly poor show of getting Quake4 out on time.

I really thought you guys had what it takes to get these games out around the same time as the UK, but obviously your just as bad as the other distributors.

I got my copy here in the UK almost a month ago.

I'm sure you have a bucket load of excuses, but the fact is, your letting south african gamers down BIG TIME.

Get your act in gear, or you'll just end up losing sales and promoting piracy !

Waiting a week longer is no big deal, but 6 weeks is frankly stupid.

I can't believe it, I really can't. My advise, shop overseas and f@ck the lame ass south african distributors, who obviously couldn't arrange a hot dog convention in a sausage factory.

its Activision for crying out loud, not the local SA distributors... geez, in what version of english am i supposed to write that out... :p

yeah like Activision are the ones who distribute product locally. The local distributors are obviously to blame. Pointing at Activision HQ is like saying 'dont blame Nu Metro for delayed release of a film, blame Warner Brothers in the US'
thats a bollox excuse.
Local distributors clearly dont care about consumers, and like telkom, are giving us whatever service they feel like providing, because..they can.

dude... if Activision wants to SELL the product to SA distributors @ R350 how the heck are you going to make a profit locally? Selling @ R299? WTF?

and if local consumers go the piracy way then it clearly shows how we care about being legit hey?

so will i be at last able to find somebody to play online against? :p

Whatever.

It's not fair that you got yours already. :( I'll have to come and kick your a$$ online. :p But first I need to sort out my new PC.

So close...... I'm soooooo close my preciousssssss.

i am also about to sort my PC out... just waiting for my CPU which should arrive by Friday... then i have to set the whole thing up... sigh...
