Hi all

I don't want to get into the whole discussion of when/if/ever the upgrade will happen. I just have the following question:

Right now my line is syncing at +/- 2048kbps (I pay for the up to 4096 service). If the overall service gets upgraded to 8mbps, does that mean that the whole technology upgrades, meaning I will sync at something like 4096, or am I just stuck at this speed until telkom decides to install a DSLAM closer to me?

On that note, does anyone know of some sort of a timetable that telkom has on rolling out DSLAMs?

I did search the forums for answers to these questions, but no luck...

No , you will continue to sync at your current speeds. You are stuck where you are.

also depends on your type of line u have is it copper or the old paper wire...

I ask, WHEN TELKOM WHEN!! I would probably not know what to di with myself if Telkom upgrade us to 8mbps

what they mean by paper wire are the first cables telkom used when they started rolling out cables they call it paper wire...

Never seen paper wire before in my life and I can promise you now that their are no such cables out there anymore.

Telkom replaced most old cables more than 10yrs ago. What they did not replace the thieves stole. Only place you might see it is indoor cabling in some old buildings.

There might still be some "paper wire" out there but it is not carrying any traffic. It is too expensive to recover so they just cut the ends and leave it in the ground (dead)!
