question about selling ore on AH

ore = smelted into bars = used by BS to level, right?

I would think that thorium bars would be more expensive but on my server 20xthorium bars goes for about 40g

20xiron bars is always well above 100g

what could be the reason for this? I mined a LOAD of thorium, but now Im just hanging onto it... not worth selling!

It varies greatly. People watch the Auction house and check whats in short supply, then go and farm those items. Others see and follow suite, "price war" begins and prices drop sybstantially. The aforementioned person sees this, finds something else and the cycle starts over again.

When I leveled mining, at times I would just buy the ORE, smelt and resell at higher value on the AH. Helped me speed leveling it as well as making a bit of gold out of it.

Also, there are more people mining thorium than iron, which is why iron is more expensive.

While leveling BS, I bought bars, since ore was always more expensive. It's all about supply and demand. And if you can predict that correctly, you can make a lot of gold with little or no effort.

Yup it's all about the supply and demand. People used to put a stack of saronite bars on AH for 25g (which is the vendor price - wtf is up with that) so I would buy em out vendor them and put mine in for about 30g.
Since ICC patch, farming mineral nodes has slowed down substantially, so saronite is selling at 37g a stack depending on time of the week.

Honestly, I would never buy Thorium ore for over 40g.. let alone 100g :O

The respawn rate of thorium nodes in Un'goro crater is insanely fast, so the supply is obviously greater than the demand. The thing with iron and especially mithril is that people just dont bother grinding the low areas(Southshore etc). This weekend a stack of 20 mithril bars went for a stupid amount of 200g.
