Question about Sony Xperia Z3

Hey guys.

I upgraded about a week ago from my Samsung S4 mini to a Sony Xperia Z3 and I am absolutely in love with this phone! I haven't got any issues with it, however I have noticed that the two speakers don't sound the same when playing a song or video. It sounds as if the top speaker is louder and has more bass and the bottom one sounds "thinner" and has more treble. It doesn't really bother me since I don't really notice it unless I hold one speaker closed and listen through the other one. I'm just wondering if this is how Sony actually designed the speaker system to not put too much strain on both speakers or something, or might it be that my speakers are defective?

EDIT: Another question. I know the phone is waterproof but I'm not yet brave enough to chuck it into a glass of water to test it. Anyway, I was wondering if the temperature of water will have an impact on the waterproofness of the phone? For example: How will it hold up against average hot water in a shower or if you accidentally drop it into your hot bath? Should it still work normally as if it were to be dropped in room temperature water?

Look for a teardown online to confirm, but I recall the Z2 was designed this way with one speaker smaller than the other. So it is highly likely that they would have done the same for the Z3. (One speaker acts as the "master" and the other is just there to add some stereo, relying on the bigger speaker to produce the lower frequency sounds.)

Although your Z3 is designed to be waterproof, the warranty from Sony doesn't cover water damage. So I'd advise against dropping your phone into a glass of water, or using it in the shower or swimming pool. Do so at your own risk. I've read quite a few stories of the Z3 Compact waterproofness not holding up, and people destroying their phones, with Sony offering nothing more than a sorry.

You should regard the waterproof feature as a protection for your phone against accidental exposure to water and liquids, and not as an invitation to to go swimming with it. Until the manufacturer provides warranty cover for water damage, excercise extreme caution.

The phone is IP68-rated, which specifies what type of protection the phone offers. The IP rating will tell you about water depth, flow speed, temperature, etc. Google it for specifics.

I had my Z3 for 2 months before the rear panel cracked by itself. Vodacom repaired it. I do not dare getting my phone wet. I have seen so many complaints of the phones failing when they get wet.

I agree with both of you. I'm not about to deliberately drop my R8000 phone into water and see if it will survive. :erm: I'll save that for the day when it does accidentally fall into some water.

My top speaker is also definitely louder than the bottom one, it's not just yours

Every month a give my Xperia Z a wash under water. Just don't use soap.

I've used it while swimming, taking video underwater and even while in the shower, no issues so far. Just make sure your flaps are closed securely.
