Hi all,

I am new here and just have one question:

Basically wanting to know if users can still access www.telkomsa.net when capped as I am sure I read that it is possible on their site at some stage.
Or do they kill access to anything?

to nothing!!! no access whatsoever....

I'm afraid that telkomsa does cap: the problem is that you can never be sure when, it might be after 20, 30, 40, 50 or even more GIGS.

And, once you're capped, you have no access at all, not even to their own website.

thanks......... can't access any sites on my adsl line. It happened about a week ago and Telkom verified that I was capped but the next day it was suddenly up and running. Not sure if I should buy another acct or hope that someone flicks the magic switch again tonite.

Once you are capped - you can always buy a new account (3 Gig) from another ISP like WA or whoever if I'm not mistaken.

thanks but if I go with another SP won't be able to abuse the acct - although very tempting just to be given decent service. Any recommendations from other users?

same thing happened to me strawberry, unable to connect one day, then the next day fine. Then afterwards pure and empty darkness. not even e-mail works. And I had to go through 8 help-desks to purchase another account as the staff always foward you to the wrong department. And since I cant afford to use 2 accounts a month, I need to phone them again to cancel the extra 2GB i bought, otherwise every month they bill you for an extra 2GB account. (R199) If Telkom are going to be hardcapping people, they should give an option of buying recharge bandwidth once off, because Im sure their getting an increasing number of calls from frustrated customers asking why their internet wont connect. At least with the older system, you could still milk your account locally without losing your e-mail.

Here is telkoms latest mumbo-jumbo:

No impact to access or applications but subject to available shared bandwidth and can be subject to hard capping rules. Can access the Internet over a dialup connection

...basically once you're over your cap they put you on a shared throttled service... then when they decide to shut that down - you can dialup using that great 80's technology - your dialup modem! Still have one of those? :D

They hardcapped my dialup too last month, so I wouldn't rely on that.

If you had dsl. on the last day of the month is it RECOMMENDED to download as MUCH as possible maybe??? Cauz if you go over the cap and they dont cap you - you win. But if try that at the start of the month you cud be trouble???

If you're over your limit they can cap you at any time (using the blunt pencil formulae)... Would start a bit before the last day... like the week before - or two

If you were so desperate for another account why didnt you just purchase another account online? Surely you have an analogue modem lying around and all the telkomsa.net accounts come with dialup.

Odd - its supposed to. Thats even what they suggest doing once youre capped.
Impact once capped

Can access the Internet over a dialup connection

Yeah but they do say a dial up and not that you can use your adsl account login . I had to use some one else username and password.
