Question on installing internet security software

I currently have Kaspersky 2010 installed on my PC and the license has expired.

I was prompted by the program (by a window popping up on a daily basis) to either renew it online or to buy a new product and then simply activate it online.

I bought the new version (Kaspersky 2011).

The quick start guide is advising me to uninstall any 3rd party solutions on the PC that has antivirus functionality. Does this also mean that I have to uninstall the Kaspersky 2010 version currently on my PC?? And do I then use the installation disk to install the new version. Or do I simply choose the option (on the window popping up on a daily basis on my PC) to activate the new product ?

Uninstall the 2010 version and use the 2011 CD for the new installation, this would provide less hassle in my opinion as with any software upgrade.
 
Leave any brand antivirus on that you want, just make sure real-time scanning is off - that's what would cause problems. So you can have AVG, Avast, Kaspersky etc on as long as only one is doing real-time scanning and the rest is used manually.

I doubt she can have two versions of Kaspersky on there. The new version will prompt her to uninstall the old version first. In fact Kaspersky prompts you to remove ALL other AV software if I remember correctly.

I agree with only one version of Kaspersky at a time.
Some people like the added security different antivirus programs provide. What one miss another might pick up. It's easier for Kaspersky to say uninstall all third party software, than to provide assistance on getting them all to play nice (by disabling real-time scanning in all). Leave only 2011 real-time scanning on. There won't be any problems. When you want to scan with another AV, switch real-time scanning off in 2011 and on again once done.

But with all that said, I only used one AV back in my Windows XP days.
 
I don't care what version/product she is running but a good upgrade would be Avira personal edition.

Avira's a good product, only negative I found is its larger updates compared to others.
 
New problem: I uninstalled the old version, installed the new one, and started doing an update of the databases last night.

This morning, it shows that the update progress only went to 69% ...... only to start from 0 again ...... and again .... and again. It keeps doing that .....

Why??????
 
Ja, that first update is a doozy, cos it is so huge. Go to their website and see if you can download the offline/manual update package and install that.

I've just installed a fresh copy (kis 64 bit) and it went very fast. Sounds like the update is corrupted. There is a link to fix that.
