Question regarding SADV / Vumatel Merge

Hi,

In April 2020, we were all notified that SADV would be merging with Vumatel, and that going forward SADV would only continue to be an ISP, with the fibre network being taken over by Vumatel.

I understand that Vumatel merged SADV and created a separate division / entity called Vuma Villages to take over the SADV Network. I would like to know if Vumatel took over all of the SADV network, or if they only took over sections.

I ask this question, as today I tried to browse both Vumatel, and a number of ISP's websites to see what packages are available, and not a single one of them listed my area as having fibre, including my current ISP. The fibre network has been live for almost 2 years at this point, and when I tried to enquire, I was told that the underlying fibre network still belongs to SADV for this area. SADV are also the only ISP that I seem to be able to use if I ever decide to change from my current ISP.

I would like to know if someone can confirm this, or whether Vuma Villages have indeed taken ownership, and its just a matter of them having to update their systems.

I have tried to contact Vumatel, but cannot get any details regarding the Vuma Villages entity, not a telephone or email address.

Vumatel has taken over the majority of SADV installation even the ones that are planned and being build. SADV has limited list of areas that still remain their fibre roll out.

The issue with addresses not showing up is an issue where the SADV coverage was not imported correctly into the Vumatel system and doing address lookup does not always show coverage. Afrihost has a "I know I have fibre" option in cases like these where coverage does not show up on the map but is confirmed as live through the respective operators website or by confirming with us.

That option forces the system to accept the order and place an order with the respective fibre operator.

I would say over 90% of SADV rollouts is now Vuma Aerial/Vuma GPON fibre.

Thank you very much for the explanation. What happens with the 10% of SADV rollouts? Will they eventually be merged under Vuma Villages? If SADV is no longer doing fibre rollouts, then it surely makes no sense to keep these networks? Also will SADV honour their previous open access network, or is the only option of ISP going to be SADV in those networks?

For now they are separate. SADV still honors the open access with regards to their own roll outs.

We still offer the SADV pricing to people in those SADV coverage and that option will be under the I'm sure I have fibre options. Whether or not they will eventually fully merge with Vumatel not really sure that is something SADV will be able to advise but I'm guessing contractual obligations in these complexes and the type of rollout will keep them as a SADV roll out for now.

What would be the sort of reasons for these networks remaining under SADV? And would these only be limited to complexes or entire neighbourhoods too?

Not really sure and I won't want to speculate but maybe stuff like CCTV, Intercom and various other DSTV or IoT setups. As far as I'm aware Vumatel does not do those rollouts.

Thank you once again for the explanation. Is there someway that I can tell if the network is badly loaded by Vumatel into their system, or someone I can contact to verify?

Got you pm. Explained why but I think for the benefit of the thread let me explain here. As mentioned above the addresses aren't always imported correctly. Your address is xxxx road but on the Vumatel system it's imported as xxxx street.

This mismatch will cause the coverage check to fail on most ISPs coverage map.
