Was wanting to find out if there are any settings to activate or de-activate to allow your pc to start up faster . My netbook takes about a minute to boot up , surely it should do it quicker .
I am running XP Home , Atom processor with 1gig ram .

type msconfig.exe in the cmd and disable some startup items which are unnecessary (like Adobe Speed launcher, etc)

Be careful though, stay away from SYSTEM processes particularly.

Netbooks are by definition a compromise. A minute or so you just gotta live with. Trim the fat with msconfig and you won't get much better.

(BTW, one of my dogs is called robbie, but i've been calling him "robass" lately and he responds! Feel proud - he's a nice dog!)

I would try and get a stripped-down version or XP, or use Linux or similar. What are you using the netbook for - just internat/mail and docs, or for other things?

Cheez Grouter with my new found "celebrity" status I am battling to get through my office door .
Thanks for all the responses , I am trying the "hibernation" route.

My netbook boots in about 30 seconds with windows 7 but it does have an ssd though.

windows xp is a very nasty booter, seems the longer you have it installed the longer it takes too boot.

Why not try linux, i mean you use it for browsing and email only right?

Yeah that's your best bet. I had every startup item disabled barring 1 or 2 on my lappie and improved start up performance considerably...

Not necessarily.

My netbook (eee 1000h) boots faster then both my notebooks at home. Approximately 30 sec on XP or Win7 (Win7 a little bit longer), haven't trimmed anything down.

Get a Mac :D

No seriously, I have found the best and easiest way to get a pc to load quicker, well into windows that is, is to edit the msconfig start up items, 90% time there are processes loading that are unnecessary.

Perhaps consider switching off Last Accessed time (NTFS) setting. Google it for the registry setting (warning: this may affect disk optimizing functions, which aren't a problem with SSD, as SDD defragmentation and layout optimization are not recommended).

Trim off services that aren't used (e.g print spooler if you don't/won't use the netbook to print)

Create yourself a "vlite" (for Vista/Windows 7) or in your case "Nlite" (for XP) installation kit. Google nlite, and read up how its done. There are many good guides all over the net. Vlite/Nlite is free, all you need is your XP installation DVD.

I would recommend a "lite" version of Windows 7. I run it on my Aspire One (with only 512Mb RAM and 8Gb SSD) which is a much lower spec than yours, the installation came in under 4Gb total and it is quite happy with the 512Mb RAM.

Also look up "Ron's Tiny XP", he has basically made the lite ISO already and I know of a few people who uses it successfully.

No not at all, infact if you like your XP "personalised" and without all the bloatware then nlite is for you. You can customise just about any aspect of the installation, like removing unwanted components that is never used and just takes up space (and RAM).

So yes, it will work just fine on a normal PC.

You can even integrate all your component drivers into the nlite installation for a quick, hassle-free (and unattended setup if you like) experience.
