Just to clarify something.... YOU CAN NO LONGER GET MARRIED IN COURT IN SOUTH AFRICA!

I doubt it... the courts are already overloaded. They would throw you out. Unless it is one of the court buildings that are busy being refurbished.
It does work, sometimes takes a few hours for a response, sometimes get no response.
Been using it to track my ID and passport, checked my status earlier and got a response.

If Home Affairs says "Only marriage officers authorised in terms of Act No. 25 of 1961 to perform marriages may do so" and that act authorises "Every magistrate , every special justice of the peace and every native commissioner shall by virtue of his office and so long as he holds such office, be a marriage officer for the district or other area in respect of which he holds office." how come you cannot get married in court?

It's more of a case of the judges just not having the time to do it. The courts have enough on their plates.

I think you are forgetting the part of them choosing NOT to want to marry people. Just because you can do it, it doesn't mean you actually want to spend all day marrying people.
