R10500 PC, sugesstions

im thinking in getting the asus 8800gt or maybe the xfx?

Already have a 32" LCD, so dont need a screen, oh ja and OS is not a prob

Why only 2GB RAM? Double it up if you can squeeze it within your budget (that's IF you're gonna be using a 64 bit OS)

I'll probably only buy myself an extra 2GB a few years from now. The only thing I have that uses all 2GB of my RAM is Oblivion, the rest only go up to about 85%-90% :)

Only 90%? :D

And if you use Vista, I've read that no matter how much RAM you have, Vista will make use it, unless XP that just lets the RAM sit there until it's needed. The more the better (on 64 bit of course).

on the chasis dont get the P180 ... personal experience, got one currently and been using it for a well over a year ... during cold days the alluminium warps and looks real ugly .... your componenets do run a little hotter, (my 7800GTX's at the time would overheat) ... you cant use water cooling with the 1st gen P180, thats if you wanna water cool ... get antecs other one that looks a little like the coolermaster ... the nine hundred ... i dont like a window and for me the P180 looks real cool, even if it does look like a fridge ... but it erks me that is warps ...

I have a first gen P180 (bought in 2005). The door did warp a little, but with the new P182, they added a third layer to the door now, so it's fixed now. 7800GTX's overheated in anthing, without the huge noisy side panel fans. The new 8800 GTS 512mb cards cool nicely in it, now that they dumped the stupid 7800 type coolers that circulated the air back into the chassis. That's also why you can attach a fan to the back (not the front) of the middle hard drive cage to drive the hot air out.

The Nine hundred is a stupid case, apart from massive cooling they dropped all the features that made the P160/P180 so successful. You might as well buy a Coolermaster chassis if you want that type of noise level.

Look into the Antec Sonata plus 550. It has a polished aluminium front bezel and piano black sides with orange highlights. it also comes with an excellent 550W Antec Power Supply

It has vinyl plating on the inside to absorb noise, and you can mount the hard drives on elastic bands to completely eliminate hard drive noise. The 12cm fan at the back is also speed adjustable, and you can add 2 92mm in the front if you want. I have a friend running a similar rig (he has the 8800GTS) to your proposed one at low fan speed.

Can you list the component prices - I'm sure I've seen them cheaper, might save you one or two thousand.

LOL! In that case, good price:D

Cost for that antec chassis?

J

about R300 less than your P180 and the Truepower trio PSU

Plus the Neo HE 550W PSU is one above the truepower series.

ex vat price is about R1520

It's the best made, best finished and best looking Chassis that antec makes in my opinion.

Careful from buying from so many dealers to save 100-200 rand as when it comes to returning items they give you **** and blame the other supplier, its not worth the hassle/time/petrol if something goes wrong imo.

If you are in Cape Town, I can source it for you, otherwise try any of the etailers, hunt for best price.
