all add up to about R15075.52 and this is a setup from pcint and prophecy

Q6600 processor might be a bit tight on the PSU. Take the money from the cooler and buy a Q9300

it runs cooler, faster and uses half the power.

If you are going with a cooler, rather go with the Thermalright HR-1 plus. I had the 9700. The fan started buzzing and you cant replace it. with the Thermalright you can stick any 12cm fan on it.

Q9300 is not worth it maybe a q9450 and postman why stay away from seagate 500GB?

and the mobo? dude that means the cpu(R4000) and the cheapest board(R3500) = R7500 with out ram and everything else... throw in: hd4870 (R3000), ram (R1200 for 2gig's), case(R800), psu (R600-R800), dvd drive(R300), screen(R2500 for 22"), hdd(R600 +-)

and you already @ R16600...

so that means you must sacrifice graphics and other things to get a nice cpu? those odds don't sound great to me

Or you can buy the i7 920 + mobo from ebay for about R5000 and stuff the overpriced importers....

They are plagued with caching problems. Many on this forum have lost their 500GB Seagates, including myself.

A Google on "Seagate 500GB problems" should reveal more.

My advice, go with Western Digital or Samsung.

yes, but, you might have to pay tax and such...

but, word of advise, Nvidia is about to release there GTX295 and it destroys the HD4870 x2. the Nvidia GTX295 will be priced @ $499! now, why this is interesting is because that means AMD/ATI will have to drop prices on all it's products :D. so you might find a HD4870 falling into the R2500 bracket (maybe even lower :D)

Links showing it destroys the 4870x2 please

Whats funny is that i know guys that build these R15K plus systems then 6 months later I build a PC with a like R380 foxconn mobo the latest AMD bang for buck chip like the 4200+ X2 dual core (I bought a couple of months back) and as much ram as I can fit, add a GFX thats not crazy overpriced but still good.

I do this and end up with a PC that costs me R3500 to R4000 and then my system runs faster then their monster rigs. Expensive ram is not so wise IMO, 4gb of cheaper ram is better than a gig of performance ram.

Any idea when they plan to release new products causing prices to drop? I haven't been keeping up with these things but am thinking of getting a new graphics card but wouldnt mind waiting a month or two if it saves some money.

ed,

I see it should be sometime this month, already benchmarks popping up for the GTX285 and the NDAs expire tomorrow.

Dude I had an AMD and it is hipper crap. That thing can't even run COD4 proper and my mom did got an intel core duo e5200 and it runs faster than amd 6000+ cooler and is cheaper and can overclock more. and uses less power casue it's 45nm where the amd I think is 90nm:eek:

expensive ram will only be used if the pc will be overclocked. I know 4gig ram iof cheap ram is beter than 1 gig performance ram Duh but we don't put in 1 gig we put in 4gb (max is 3.5 that 32bit can pick up). Please give us the specs of the system that will kick my pc ass.

I got Q9450 @ 2.66GHZ overclocked to 3.4GHz
geforce GTX 280
Apacer 4GB DRII 800MHz RAM

get about 18400 score in 3dmark and cod4 and cod5 I can ran at 250 FPS constant. and GTA @ 40-60+ FPS. how can you play these games with that pc. whant screenies you know and all this games is on full resolutions and full graphics.
