My friend wants a new pc. He got a maximum of R15000 to spend so what can you guys get him. He's situated in Pretoria. This is what I got at Prophecy

Mobo ASUS P5Q-Pro R1480.24
CPU Q6600 R2422.07
RAM Mushkin XP 4GB(2x2GB) R1391.83
Graphics Force3d 4870 R3378.86
case Antec super Lanboy R800.55
DVD writer LG GH22 R335.3
HDD Seagate 500GB R862.93
PSU Cooler master 650W R942
Screen SAmsung T220 R3377.66

This all adds up to about R15000

So I want better stuff. this is the best I can do from prophecy shop without going over R15000.

This is what he wants:
Crossfire mobo
Quad core CPU (That q6600 is not sure of it or can you guys get like Q9450, 9400 at more or less same price)
ATI 4870 or maybe 4850 if 4870 cannot fit into R15000 budget
500GB HDD
DVD writer
screen at least 20"
Wants to overclock but not so much that you will need a cooler

Thanks
Nelis

thanks for the help anyone keep it coming on please

Just threw this together between your Prophecy build and some of PCInt's components.

ASUS P5Q R1480.24
Intel E8400 R2085.06 / Intel Q6600 R2422.07
4GB DDR2-800 R636.12
500GB hard drive R751.26
Samsung 2233GW R2085.06
HD4870 (1GB) R3760.86
Coolermaster 650W PSU R942
Total for E8400 build: R11740.60
Total for Q6600 build: R12077.61

He can use the money left over for case, DVD drives, any other accessories that he needs.

wow that look sweet and cheap

thanks. should he either go for the Q9450 than the Q6600

what box is have good cooling, is in stock at shops and is not to expensive?

Forget about the Q6600 or the Q9XXX Range of processors.

Go for the new i920. Its Quad Core and its much faster than the other processors and very overclockable.

and the mobo? dude that means the cpu(R4000) and the cheapest board(R3500) = R7500 with out ram and everything else... throw in: hd4870 (R3000), ram (R1200 for 2gig's), case(R800), psu (R600-R800), dvd drive(R300), screen(R2500 for 22"), hdd(R600 +-)

and you already @ R16600...

so that means you must sacrifice graphics and other things to get a nice cpu? those odds don't sound great to me

Only for multithreaded applications from what I've seen. As most games are still single-threaded (or have 2 threads) there will not be too much benefit in getting the i7s right now. That's why I recommended the E8400 (or above) for gaming.

Made this the other day for a guy on the war3 forums:

This is probably what i would get if i could blow 15k. All prices are taken from http://www.digitaladdiction.co.za (they'll assemble your pc for free, as long as you buy all the necessary parts from them)

I think thats a bit much. Still is better to build self. Always fun to built a pc self and then enjoy it.

ye, well you could how ever wait a tiny bit longer, amd is going to release there HD4900 series and I suspect that Nvidia has something in the cooking pot too... and if they both release soon enough, the HD4800 series and Nvidia gtx260/280 will have a nice price reduction :D
