Ahoy,

Who would be best to go with for the R199 - 3gb package, Axxess or Webafrica, in terms of service etc.

or are there any better alternatives?

Thanks..

Cybersmart has a R100 for 3gb package, for people on dsl 192, the price goes up slightly the faster your conn.
I havnt had any problems with them, besides hardcapping.

go with openweb (http://openweb.co.za) ;)
3GB = R199 + up to 30GB local access after being capped + no shaping
Plus once you're capped you can still access international sites at dial up speeds (56K). If you pay a little extra you can access international sites via an 'openbrowse' proxy once you're capped.

hmm, those are 2 tough choices, for the cheaper one, how does it measure up quality and feature-wise?

Thanks!

cybersmart uses saix network so low latency on links though it is shaped like mad. basically for a saix 3GB acc they are the cheapest. The also offer a 2GB email account if you want to use their mail server. Since i tend to use about 3GB a month at most it works out to be the cheapest option out there.

if you want a saix isp - webafrica without a doubt. if you want an is isp, go with openweb.

cheers :)

sorry!, and the differences between saix and is are!? :)

Hey MrE,

Basically the difference is, with a SAIX (Telkom based) account, you are hardcapped. In other words, lets say you buy 3GB's, you ONLY get 3GB's. Once you have used up your 3GB's, your account will be disconnected, and you will not be able to access the internet from that account.

IS accounts offer you up to 30GB's local access AFTER you have reached your (lets say 3GB) cap. Combined with one of our OpenBrowse proxy services, you can surf internationally for UP TO 30GB's!!

SAIX connectivity is via the SAT3 cable, but its badly shaped.

IS connectivity is via their own satellite infrastructure, resulting in slightly higher latency, but better consistancy as the shaping rules are alot less restrictive.

IMHO Web Africa is better than Axxess for service and WA has a much better site that allows you to see everything related to your ADSL account.

How does Cybersmart know what linespeed you have if that is controlled by the monopoly?

I wish WA could get going with reselling ISDSL accounts - no offence MrBEEP :) BTW how do OpenWeb's online systems compare to WA's?

Im not sure how they know what your linespeed is, but they must have a way or they wouldnt have that system in place.

I have very good latency with cybersmart while playing games and international etc i get very good download speeds for a 192 line.

If you want a cheap option then they are the way to go, but if you feel you are going to go over 3gb then dont use them, as to topup will cost you R165 for another 3gb on a 192 line.

Don't go for Axxess. Poor service delivery and tons of excuses. WA all the way!

Don't have experience with Axxess but WA are simply brilliant with service. Doesn't mean they don't mess up, but when they do things are fixed up properly.

Cheers
