R24/GB ADSL offer

In my opinion Afrihost topups are more competetive at R 29/GB (sometimes even R 14/GB) andpricing not only valid for 3 months...

Conditions:
Top-Ups at 5.7c per Mb
Special will only apply to 1st 3 months billing, after which normal billing will apply.
 
Pity about the offer expiring in march, people would be flocking there if it lasted longer.

Cool to see that others are still trying to beat the awesome R29 though! :D
 
Why would anyone go for this - it makes no sense. Unless its a case of sign up for R24/gig and you keep that rate - like what Afrihost did. Sure its cheaper for 3 months, but not worth the R5/gig saving in my opinion (if compared to afrihost, and even smaller saving when compared to G-connect etc). The after special rate of R59/gig is just way to high. What do they hope to achieve by this (Yes I know more customers) but seriously do they think this will work?

Some prominent service providers have even suggested that this is a failed business model and that it will result in Afrihost either lifting their prices later on or going out of business.

Has Afrihost ever commented on whether or not the R29 is below cost for them and how they intend to maintain if it is in fact below cost?

I find it hard to believe that a company as small as Afrihost (relatively speaking) would offer interwebs at below cost for such a prolonged period.
 
Amazingly, I topped up with Afrihost this morning for R 14.50 per gig. Yip, they're running the special again.

I agree 1000%, what type of consumer would go for this?
 
It's amazing how Afrihost has made the competition run around like headless chickens. Not one has come up with an offer that matches their no strings attached R29 per gig.
 
Wow, more pricing madness!!!! I wish it would stop and the would give us faster speeds, too much bandwidth and not enough speed is a problem.

Then cancel after 3 months, and re-apply for another 3 months of R24/Mb pricing :D
 
Regarding AfriHost - had they been running at a loss, then surely they would not be able to offer their special pricing anymore? Seems that their business model still is a valid one though.

So I guess you guys are wrong. Sounds similar to what Afrihost did when it launched R29 per GB. Sign up now and lock yourself in for life. Except that the topup price sucks.

I wouldn't rush to sign up though - I'd wait to see how this play's out though. These guys do everything from ICT, to furniture, properties and homeloans. Very weird, if not suspicious.

There is also no support forum or knowledgebase on their website. Also it appears that there is no way for users to login and monitor usage...

With the pricing of bandwidth dropping, i am sure that there are going to be more players entering the market. Atleast the consumer benefits at the end of the day.

But faster speeds will also be welcomed.. Waiting for Telkom to up to 12Mbps

Indeed, if you get locked in at R24/gig it changes the whole game. The article didn't make this clear (or I missed it). I will also then be waiting to see how they perform. But I often top up and the top up rate does spoil it a bit.

and after 3 months, common R10 per gig will be the norm?
