Due to get a new car in Jan, set a hard budget of R400k max, what would you recommend?
Max km should be <50k and pref automatic

Edit: I've been looking at everything from bakkies to polo gti's, no real preference on body shape as it will be a daily.

We will need more info than that.

Do you plan on offroading? Have a family? Want something sporty? Etc.

Do you want a SUV, hatch, sedan, coupe? Do you prioritise performance, efficiency, space...?

Volvo having a run out special at some of their dealers - over R100K off and lots of added options on a V40. 7Y/140K maintenance as well.

Jeez! Is that how much Swifts go for these days?!?
That's the top of the line Swift Sport with the 1.4 Turbo engine.

The vanilla Swift starts at R164k and goes up to R214k for the top specced auto model

I like the V40 but the current model is showing its age

Body shape doesn't matter to me, I'm really looking for options that I might not have considered. Don't really want you all to tell me to go for what I already have in mind. If it was your budget what would you get?

Sensible Options: Mazda 3 or CX5
Less Sensible Options: Mini Cooper
Dont Care Options: MX5 or Abarth 500

My choice would be a 1968 Alfa Romeo GT Junior, definitely an appreciating asset ;)

Suzuki Swift sport. Most fun NEW car for under R400k
Polo Gti, Clio RS 18... quickest cars for under a year old with minimal mileage for under R400k
Corsa Sport, but super slow for its price. should get one new.

Dont really know many other options under R400k as I havent really looked.

It REALLY depends on what you want
