wow didn't think you could pick those up for <R400k but the millage and running costs is a bit of a concern for me.

I would make sure to get a 4 year old one, with < 70 000km, which would allow me to extend the motorplan to a total of 7 years, and still not hit 100 000km. Extending for time is relatively cheap, but extending km is crazy expensive.
After those 3 years, you should have an idea what it would cost to continue to maintain it, and whether you can afford it to maintain it out of plan. From my personal experience, it's not that bad to own a BMW out of plan.

Reckon you're going to get 50 different responses based on what we all drive, but were it me in your shoes with those criteria, Caddy Alltrack 7 seater. Doubt an H1 or Kombi would be low enough mileage.
What's a second hand Leaf or i3 go for? Cos I'd also look at those.
There, my left field options.

I owned a 1.2 Suzuki Swift and it was a great car. I can only imagine the fun one can have in a 1.4 turbo.

If OP is not a car nut though but doesn't want the boring Jazz, maybe look at Peugeot (I own one so biased)? Great interior (GT Line) for every day commute, the 2008 is practical (back seats fold flat just like the Jazz) and it has a way better auto gearbox than the crap EDC that is in the Renaults.

Plus - you'll have all the annoying French flare you'll come to love: unusable glovebox, constant but irrational fear of no aftermarket service and you'll be VERY aware of other Peugeots on the road because every time you see one you'll go "oh thank God somebody else also bought one" :p

I would get myself an IS-F and call it a day.

I would get the Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0L Overland. I had it before and it ticked all the boxes for me.
Super comfortable with the air suspension.
Plenty of power from the 3.0 turbo diesel.
All the creature comforts you need in a daily.
Very capable off road which opens up an entire new hobby/weekend activity (if you not already into that)

Speaking of devaluation:

Ford Fusion for R250'000:

And a BMW K1300S with enough change for fuel for a year or two:

I would get a Polo Gti, especially as a daily commute. I like a compact car with a bit of grunt. I have a 4 year old 1.2 Tsi Highline and it's been endless fun - a bit more power would be the cherry on top
