R65k and free etolls / no fines. Everyone expects you to drive with "attitude". Schoolgirls for free. Plus spares by the bucketload truckload. Can you go wrong?

I would make sure to get a 4 year old one, with < 70 000km, which would allow me to extend the motorplan to a total of 7 years, and still not hit 100 000km. Extending for time is relatively cheap, but extending km is crazy expensive.
After those 3 years, you should have an idea what it would cost to continue to maintain it, and whether you can afford it to maintain it out of plan. From my personal experience, it's not that bad to own a BMW out of plan.

Mine has been out of plan since 2017 and it has not been much of a problem except needing to replace the fuel pump and later a radiator leak. I love the brand and wouldn't change it for anything, except a Porsche and maybe add a Benz as a third car.

If you are earning a comfortable living it is definitely not bad, but I get a feeling the OP worked hard to save the money and doubt he/she has the stomach for what a BMW will cost if out of warranty. I am taking that from his/her remark that he/she is wary of maintaining a BMW.

Mmm, hard to say, since I'm not in your situation OP. But I would either buy something brand new and keep it for 10 years+, or something fun and exotic that I wouldn't need to rely on every day, and have some cash to repair it now and then when it breaks.

So in situation A: Probably a new Golf with nicest spec I can get for R400k. Or an Audi A1 if you want something compact and funky.

Situation B: B8 Audi RS5
