Racechip - Experience or advice?

a 150k on a polo is not a lot of money, okay then

how many people on this forum do you think spent 150k on a polo? Infact I don't think any petrolhead would willingly spend 150k on a polo that goes nowhere and achieves very little

but you are that special petrolhead with a R2m house and 2 cars thats nearly paid up.

/facepalm

edit: Forgot to add. I also own a 2012 BMW S1000RR. My Bakkie is paid off and the wife's car will be paid off by April next year. Maybe I will then be able to afford an E30 with a turbo.

I don't know, "what did say after that"? Strong mushroom post.

It's ok to be wrong saturnz, there's is nothing wrong with admitting it.

Yup it is forced induction which is precisely why I mentioned reliability.

You could easily make it a 1000kw motor if you wanted to...except it would only last about 5 seconds.

so please ask SauRoNZA how he would easily make this engine a 1000kw motor, you interrogate me about 3 times the power by upping the boost but forget that SauRoNZA was speaking about easily increasing the power by much more than that

you sure are the consistent one, I will give you that

SauRoNZA was using hyperbole. You're clearly not familiar with the term, so I'll explain:

"Hyperbole is the use of exaggeration as a rhetorical device or figure of speech."

Since you don't understand hyperbole, I can only assume that your "three times the power by just upping the boost" insinuation was legitimate, which just reinforces my point.

as I said, you got lots of time on your hands, arguing for others

Saturnz, I was just about to post that you should just ignore them. The bulk of the message is lost on them anyway. It's hard to cognitively process simpleton matters from within a R2m house :P

Then TehFloopy posts the above. Gold, absolute gold.

A200 is not a hot hatch.

But the A45 AMG 2.0 turbo which makes a 110kW & 100NM more than the standard A220 2l model is.

Wrt the rest of the discussion:
Getting another 30kW out of the stock 2l Merc engine should be easily attainable and without and any risks (except your warranty & insurance).

If one has a look at the 1.8l M271 engine used in several C class models you would have three or four models (C180, C200, C230 etc) all using the same engine but with different boost levels giving higher power output for the bigger model numbers. Besides just changing boost the compression level also changes (head gasket) as well as the ecu mappings & injectors. These things have forged steel connecting rods etc so a bit of extra boost is not gonna harm the engine taking a C180 to C230 level.

I reckon 30kW extra from a forced induction A200 should be easy with no risk to the engine mechanicals IF done right (increasing fuel delivery etc in conjunction with more boost). Your MB warranty & insurance claims is a different story though.

+1. I would only do it when the warranty expires. That way you get a bit more power after a few years of ownership to keep you from becoming bored with your ride.

Well thanks for the thread derail....
With regards to the engine it's actually a 1.6 turbo and after reading a few of the legit comments I have decided against modding.... I only plan to keep it for 4 more years anyway

I was obviously (well I figured but apparently not) not basing that in reality and was simply making a point that if you didn't have reliability in mind you could do a great many things.

Woukd be an interesting thing for someone to test in PMPO fashion though.

What's the most power you could get out of a stock engine if it only needs to last a given amount of time.

I mean we see this in F1 after all. Crazy power for short lived reliability.

So you saying, wait til the car and ALL it parts are 3 years old, then increase the stress on them.

I modded my car 8 months after purchase. Then bought an aftermarket warranty, that covered a modded car.

I had a 'warranty solutions' insurance policy. I used it only once in 4 years.

Hi Nimz, still enjoying the car? I am in the same conundrum as you with mine, whether to mod or not. I decided to wait a while until the warranty expires before doing it. From what I have read, the Racechips are pretty good and the claims they make are excellent but whether that translates into actual performance is another thing altogether. I will probably mod in 2016 - hopefully there will be some good mods by then.

If not, I need a cheap Toyota 86 :) RWD madness :D

Yeah I am but, I guess the novelty has worn off somewhat. Is your warranty over in 3 years? That can't be right as the motorplan etc is 6 years as far as I know.
I've always been a BMW fan but the models I wanted (new) were out of my price range so I settled for the A.
In 5 years I will be getting my BMW
You still enjoying your A250?
