What you learning in history is the TRUTH! That IS what happened. Or maybe all those things you mentioned are just figments of all our imaginations?

To the folks that seem to think there is some sort of "genocide", get a grip people! Are white people the only people being killed on daily basis? No.

What he is learning is only a small portion of the truth, and also a one-sided presentation thereof.

Taking a look at your other argument - do you think that you'd argue that the attrocities committed against Jews and others during WWII wasn't a genocide because other people were killed by the Germans too?
 
If what was taught back in the days was wrong and what is being taught right now is also wrong. Then will we ever learn the truth?

Should we rather ban history from schools and have parents narrate their preferred version to the kids?

I don't recall too much negative stuff in my history classes. I mean the only thing that blacks ever did in history was murder Piet Retief and Gert Maritz and then got slapped at Blood River. And they may have squabbled with some settlers in the Fish River area. History, besides the sheer boredom of the Great Trek, was great fun.

So... should this and future generations keep on regurgitating the ills of the past? Should they keep fueling the cycle of hatred?

It'll become like Gaza, where people are fighting for no other reason than: Our ancestors fought, so we will too.

Our generation isn't one of slave traders and colonialists. Those people are dead, and their crimes with them.

+1 my view exactly..the good people far outnumber the thick sculled murderous barbarians that lurk our streets.

am not white and I have been mugged at gun point by some fools brandishing a real gun, and when I read about crime stories my blood boils too.

Got cousins and friends (same skin tone) who have left SA because of the situation, so yeah, things can get hectic for all races...

Hence I am going to vote and hope for change. just my view
 
change would be good. crime wouldn't decrease with a new government, but it would decrease with a new attitude and better jobs. if people were just better overall, they weren't thinking of stereotypes, and they were friendly, this country would already start being a better place
 
If America still has so many differences between black and white after 55 years since they became and equal society, I have little hope for us.

Black American's often play the race card whenever it will help them. White American's do racial profiling in relation to blacks and do not truly treat them equally.

What can we do to overcome the racial divide? We are culturally different and no matter how 'tolerant' we are, we are always going to feel separate as long as we are culturally different.

What, you mean the majority of right wing whiners? One thing that I've discovered is that the new SA is alive and well in some parts of the country and in others people cling to the past for some reason. Think for example Pretoria vs Johannesburg. In Joburg people wouldn't bat an eyelash if a group of friends from different races walked around. Do the same thing in Menlyn mall and you'd get more than a few dirty looks and probably even a few comments.

It's time for the tiny minority that want everything in this country to fail to realise that the majority of people DO in fact want to stand together as South Africans. If that wasn't the case the country would've been in a lot more crap than it currently is.
