Does the university now gain jurisdiction into what and what we may not do in our private lives ? I think this is the biggest problem here .
But all im seeing in this thread is one group claiming that they have freedom of speach and the other trying to say that hate speach is wrong .
It seems noone even tries to discus the fact that the court gave the NWU the right to to expel any student that can possibly hurt its so called name , if they for some reason decide that they no longer want the university to have a connection to people that do\are\come from\ islam, venterdorp, joined a dart throwing group on facebook, play rugby,go to the beach on christmas, wear pink popped collar shirts etc. even if those things are practised in private.
They have now expelled a student for creating a group that has no connections to the NWU other than the person is a student at NWU , and you guys somehow think that this is right ? unless the student was using only the NWU's computors and internet connection to make and maintain the group , i cannot see a reason for the court to grant the NWU this right.
The case should rather be The people vs facebook than NWU vs students human rights.
