Racist Facebook group student expelled

ok, so it's ok for one group to speak badly of the other but not the other way around? i guess ti only works one way

^^^ I usually don't insult people but your argument is retarded. Please, if you can find a Facebook group where a bunch of black South Africans go off about how much they hate white South Africans you might win a prize but I'm afraid you can't win this argument.

actually, there was one... not sure if it is still there (Facebook is down at the moment).

But when you get a chance do a search for "kill the boer" on facebook groups.

There was also a thread about it here on the board.

Searched facebook and I come up with zero...just a bunch of old ZAR flags and some whities reminiscing about "the good old days".

no really, it was there... and there was a thread here as well, maybe it got deleted. There was a big discussion about whether it was a legit site, or just someone stirring. in fact, I think I reported it on Facebook as well to the Facebook service center. Some of the older guys on here will remember it.

So what? Farm murders and "reverse racism" somehow justifies what these guys did? If you're starting your debate from that premise than you'll always lose and very few people will have sympathy for whatever cause you're fighting.

*ahem* I think you're misunderstanding what Fudzy was trying to say.

although I wouldnt join the group, its called freedom of expression and freedom of association, The way that this country deals with every problem is to hide it away and pretend it doesnt exist.... their view offends me, so lets get rid of them- the word "communism" comes to mind.....

LOL what is your point? Are you insinuating that we shouldn't vote SACP in the next general elections? You are just contradicting yourself; I can support whichever economic-political system I wish - it's called "freedom of association".

Unless you were in favour of communism, then I misunderstood your point.

hahaha now its my turn to be confused :D

what im saying is that in a democracy we should have the right to express ourselves without the fear of political intervention, yet this is not the current reality and is reminiscent of a communistic regime :p

But your freedom of expression counts for zero if you're promoting hate speech. This is not communism, it makes perfect sense. If these students have a problem with this they can take it to the Constitutional Court and fight for their right to promote hate.

He can defend himself/

He has nothing to defend himself against. If you read his post carefully (slow down a bit maybe, and get less worked up), you'll see that he's commenting on the fact that certain forumites like to bring up the whole farm murders or "reverse racism" thing every time an article like this (one that highlights whites' racism to black people) comes up.

You're actually getting tense with somebody who's in agreement with your own sentiments.

I think that this country is very selective when it comes to pulling the hate speech card, there is a bit of a double standard here, every time Julius malema stands up and says that they must kill for zuma, or chase away the supporters of cope, that is considered perfectly acceptable, yet is far more dangerous than a couple of redneck yacks posting their views in facebook- if it was truly considered hate speech that could incite violence, they would have been arrested..... I think they should take this to the constitutional court....

Yip - group appears to have been deleted but IIRC the profiles of those who created the group looked legit and were of student age as well. Pity we can't see who they were...

I have no problem with this at all. I just wonder what happened to the group of black dudes who started a group on Facebook called Kill The Whitey? I'm surprised anyone with so few braincells actually makes it as far as Uni...

 Are you guys saying that what those students did was right and justifiable? wow!!!

It's freedom of speech, i saw it first hand in America, wow , they really don't give a **** what you say. Seeing that they were in our situation a few decades ago, maybe we will evolve to that level and stop seeing everything as racism.

*sigh*

Yeah, you're right - the trick to solving racism is to allow it to continue unabated...

It's not an issue of that, it's an issue of being consistent. What about all the black racism in universities? What about all the other things that are 'detrimental to the good name of the university' such as poor pass-levels, riots etc?

Are you against them making one positive change because other issues still exist? That's some warped logic If you refer to my original post in this thread, I said something along similar lines to you, but it appears on the previous occasions, the university's name was not linked to the group in any way.

It's akin to saying that we should not prosecute rapists because some murderers still get off scot-free...
