rAge 2009 opens

Yeah, the rage was okay, no great game previews but at least I got a cool Baby Milo t-shirt and spongebob belt .... Thank goodness something different!!

I really hope that Tide Media are looking at the response to rAge. Anyway, here are my thoughts ...

  1. As an expo I was quite disappointed. There was no flow to the exhibitions. I got the impression that many of the exhibitors had greater interest in the possible profits they could make than actual exhibition?
  2. The variety was poor. Where are the gadgets and they sales of the bits and bobs? Last year I found a few nice deals including blank discs with a functional leather case. (Perhaps I didn't see these offers?)
  3. The games on show were mainly FPS but a bit of racing and the music type games like Guitar Hero and the like. There were a few Wii games on display but for a console which has in the past outsold PS3 and Xbox, their presence was weak. Nintendo, are you resting on your laurels?
  4. Just an observation to Nintendo, or whoever reps you at expos like this, where was the demonstration of Wii Sports Resort? Isn't this your current thrust? Wii Mario Kart (was interesting and might buy same in future) and Wii Fit I found at the Look n Listen stand. But where was games like Tiger Woods and Grand Slam Tennis? This was a letdown.
  5. I would also like to know who the target market is for these expos. The age restrictions for most of the FPS games I saw on demo are 16+? There was just not enough on display for the younger audience (although at R50 for 6 years and older, I wouldn't be surprised if the kiddies don't turn up! :mad:)
  6. There were one or two new titles which I did find interesting, like Borderlands. I think it might be a good title.
  7. As I have previously "posted", R50 is ludicrous for a 6 year old, let alone any children under 12. There is no logic in the pricing whatsoever!!! Costs should be covered by the exhibitors, food stands, etc, and not by my 6 y.o. daughter!

As for the rest I can only hope the 2010 edition is better research and Tide Media actually take time to talk to the people who were there, and don't get to wrapped up in the greatness and profitability of the event. Enough said, from me anyway.

Sad that within the 1st 30 mins i had 3 virus attacks...but managed to leach almost 600GB of "Stuff" through their DC++ hub...
Other than that it was ok...
 
I managed to get 1 xbox game at a good price and a set of gaming headphones, other than that didn't see any good prices. Looked at the 5870, R4999? WTF? Huge rip off.

I think there were ones for 4400 IIRC.
 
What did you guys think about the smaller stands like the scuba and energy drinks
 
Do you think they should keep it strictly for games or allow different things like varsities, clothing, graphic schools???
 
Well, one of the reasons I found it boring is because everyone already knows what is going to be launched. A few years ago before the internet was so common I remember everyone walking around computer shows wow'ing at the things that were out. Now, you've heard or read about it a few weeks ago already.
 
Ya wasnt good at all felt like me walking around in my room with millions of ppl in it, no new tech, no new games, nothing surprising, most ppl have all that stuff already now we paid R50 to see it again.

I don't get how scuba in anyway relates to gaming or tech. Whats next? Mountain bikes? Sewing? Gardening? Why on earth there was a scuba stall is beyond me.
 
The expo was really disappointing. The only thing that I enjoyed was playing the entire Borderlands demo with one of the 2K Games UK employees at the Megarom stand.

I was so impressed, I prebought the game from Steam yesterday night. Only problem with that is that Megarom isn't getting any money from me.
 
Not so fast...

Positives:
Biggest surprise was by far the Splinter Cell: conviction demo showcase - great gameplay,great stealth action and the EXECUTE function is going to provide a lot of fun...simply wow

Uncharted 2 - playing the introduction sequence was memorable.

Borderlands - really fun, looks like they have meshed the RPG and shooter into a fun package.

Otherwise I wish Brutal Legend was there...

Seeing AMD 5870 in Xfire mode - I want :)

Overall I got what I came for: a 2nd-hand copy of Racedriver:GRid for ps3.

But yes, I can see how many could have found it K*K
 
Well I had fun, brought my gf, almost bliksemed one of the NAG staff, played some OP FLash Dragon Rising *booooyy*, supported my homeboy Shase, got a free NAG mag, good day, good day.

Only downside was walking all the way to the mall for smokes.

Oh and there were some FAT BASTARDS at that place lol, seriously! I saw some oke bend over to pick up his rig, his crack is like 30 cms!!11

Only reason I went was for the opportunity to play Dragon Age Origins before release. Previously the expo was boring and the same happened this time, nothing new or exciting that I didn't know of or had seen online before going to the expo.

But it was there? And it rocks! It was just left of Dragon Age.

My highlights were the following:

1. Playing the opening moments of Uncharted 2.
2. Playing the opening moments of Brutal Legend.
3. Dragon Age.

AC2 looked pretty good as well, although it was hard to see if the mission structures would be wildly different from the 1st to prevent the repetitiveness the 1st one was plagued with.
 
I was also dissappoited a bit, But I got some cute things for my g-friend and a few free mags.....I didn't get the scuba stuff either but I liked some of the clothing being sold
