Rage quitting Eskom, my setup...

Our goals were pretty much the same too :)

Goals:
1.) Power is a must as we WFH
2.) Pay Eskom as little as possible
3.) Over spec for winter so we can add appliances later / I don't need or want to play solar police

well if it unsyncs and you cant top up then on a day when you use eskom you wont be able to
Is it something that i need to get? I have not had any issues loading units on the meter since my installation was done.

Afaik some meters / municipality detect tampering or suspect tampering if you aren't buying credits - so they shut off the supply to your prepaid meter. I was told that registering for SSEG in Cape Town prevents this as the city can then detect you have a solar install and thus won't take action.

my unsync day 1 if you top up no issues then you likely ok

Here I am thinking we are crazy for dropping R20k on a starting point with just 2.8 KWh of storage... and no solar yet. Congrats! Really professional setup and you must have some big credit kahunas for a battery that big and heavy. I bet you 100% that they had fun trying to unload that battery and get it into position.

Ah thats good, I snagged a 4th hubble putting our storage on par with each other just because of planned increases will get additional panels in the future. Beautiful set up and welcome to the club
That's the great thing about "smaller" bricks, you can add to them in bite-size increments and build the storage up over time, vs mortgaging the home for another 20K storage, when you only need 10.

Yep - that was definitely a concern for me - but I decided to rather just add panels later.

I really really wanted the 30kw freedomwon - it was only 45k more than the 20kw but I just couldn’t afford or justify it…

That would have compounded the problem even more  but that monster you have should be more than enough for a while...

So it turns out our area had a power surge at 00:57 last night - which looks like it's fried my mains breaker... (only thing on there is the 1 geyser / electric oven). Having solar / a big battery I didn't notice that I actually had no Eskom feed until 15:30 today...

I didn't find out because my battery was low (it was 100%), but rather because I wanted to manually toggle my geyser on (going to use this as an excuse to dump in timer switches tomorrow when I test / change the break).

There's a nice green / red light on the db which lets me know which feeds are up - and the red light she is off (grid)....

Time to go buy a volt meter tomorrow and test.

Maybe get some CBI Astutes for the timers. They work a treat.
