I got Rain 5G about a month ago with the outdoor CPE. The speeds are great (200 down, 50 up), but occasionally the connection will drop entirely for about 30 seconds and kick me out of my game. Sometimes it goes a few days with no drop, other times it'll drop 3 or 4 times a day. Usually nothing will change on the router status page - constant 3 or 4 bars on 4G and 5 bars on 5G with the Internet icon remaining blue. It will usually come back by itself. But rarely all three lights will drop entirely for a few minutes and I have to restart the CPE.

The CPE is mounted outside, facing the correct direction according to the Rain website, but the branches of a big tree are directly in front of it. Not sure if this is possibly an issue? It could also be other people in the house connecting to streaming services, but I doubt it. PC is connected via ethernet and a switch, but when my PC loses internet, so does my phone which is connected directly to the CPE via WiFi. So it's not an issue with my PC or the switch.

Anyone with any ideas? Options I have considered are: moving the CPE to the other side of the house, away from the tree, but this would be much less easy to do than the current setup; or rearranging things to aim for 5 bars as well on 4G.

Let me know what additional information I can provide.

I think this is just the normal experience with 5g at the moment. Mine also mounted outside, goes great for long periods and then this past week has been terrible. This weekend has had constant disconnects.

I have the same problem. Especially in the evenings. It will drop constantly. During the day it will drop a couple of times. And for some reason every day at 4:15pm give or take 5 minutes, it will drop. I see you mention trees. Well for me, I swear it's caused by some cars driving past in the complex. Or it is when the wind is blowing. Is that possible? I just don't know anymore. Have been trying to look for a reason but I don't really know if there is one.

It's interesting that you mention wind. I feel like back when I had LTE, the connection became very spotty when it was windy. And now that you mention it, I think it is more windy on the days that the 5G drops more frequently. Very weird.

Same here. My 5G connectivity drops at random times. Really annoying especially when I am trying to work.

I hate it. I keep losing Gwent games because I get disconnected. Unfortunately I don't have any other options. Vodacom Fibre was even worse and our complex has an exclusivity deal with them. I need this lockdown to end to get the router on the roof. And if that doesn't work then I have to move to somewhere with Vumatel fibre.

I'm more and more convinced that it's caused by the wind. Wind blows, connection drops, Soli loses his game.

Hi goldfritter,

Please send us a DM with the email address linked to your rain account so we can further investigate your query?

Hi All, i have been using Rain 5G since November last year. The router i have is the CPE Pro. Here is a scenario i experienced but realized through trial and error that the issue was with a connected device. I hope this assists.

In my case due to the limited ports in the 5G router i decided to add a netgear extender. I noticed the 5G router would then intermittently drop signal. I then reset the 5G router and started adding 1 device at a time waiting to see which device might be the issue. And to my surprise it was an issue with the netgear extender. I am not sure if any wireless devices could have the same effect but it would be worth a try to add 1 device at a time and monitor the performance. I hope my experience helps some of you.

Good point, there are actually two range extenders connected to the device, one of which is a Netgear.

Would this cause an issue with the 5G connection on a computer connected via ethernet though? Or would it only cause issues with other devices connected via WiFi? Because currently I am having problems with internet connectivity on both wired and wireless devices.

Hmmmm. I also have a Netgear range extender. Will try a bit without it. It would be really weird if that's the issue.

Guys please post your finding after testing the units which are connected to your 5G router. I can confirm the netgear extender i was using is Model Number WN2000RPT V2, this unit is not suitable for hard wiring to the 5G CPE Pro. connecting wireless to the 5G router seems to work without the unit dropping connection. However if i hard wire the unit to the 5G router it drops signal after 5 min

Okay no, I have a D-Link extender. Thought it was a Netgear one and I have the problem even if only one device is connected via network cable. On my side it's the signal that fluctuates a lot. Both 5G and LTE.

I did get it better though! I stacked boxes and put the router on top by the window. The signal is actually worse but for some reason it's much more stable. I will continue monitoring it. Now that we may go to level 4, I will see if I can get someone to put the router on the roof. I really hope that that will fix my problems.

@rain_mobile

Hi Solitude ,

Let me know how it goes for you , Honestly i've tried it all with no real success ,
I have mine mounted outside on the roof as indoors there is nothing. A few day's ago i was able to get above 200 in the early mornings , this however seems to have taken a serious dip. I also asked Rain to get back to with something else as their suggestion to me was to downgrade from the 5G Package i have to the 5G Standard package and that's not an option for me at the moment.

My signal at the moment is as follows.

It's not the best ,but i have seen worse on the forum ,

My speedtests for this morning

Tests over the last 7 day's

I dont think the issue is so much on the ODU side anymore unless it has a hardware fault ,
In my case i have not made any adjustments to the unit over the last 7 day's .

I'm Still connect to the same tower for the last seven day's .

I have the R699 package & i have been having endless headache on this. The connection seems to be very unstable. I ended up taking out the sim card & inserted it into my Lte modem because I got tired of the issue with the 5G outdoor router. The Lte router worked perfectly but then I think Rain block the Internet connection on the Lte router with the 5G sim card & had to insert it back into the 5G router. I am so frustrated.
P. S. I inserted my 5G sim into my friend's 5G CPE Pro router & the connection was super stable. In conclusion, the 5G Outdoor N5368X router is the issue & so i need Rain to change my router to the Pro version attached at the soonest because I am losing out on my work. View attachment 831134
