Rain 5G: My Experience & Network Setup

Yes for the price of the vumareach 40/10 (R529) its really a good deal (other than the quirks of the ONT/Router).

Thanks - yes - just scratching the surface but dont want to get carried away. With electrcity prices going up im trying to see the ROI for payback etc. but the fact that i can then have loadshedding backup would be great. was first going to go the UPS route but now looking into the solar route one time. hence the rain service has to take a break.
Goodluck I will be joining you if the ping doesn't sort itself out and when the issues in my area gets sorted:)

Pm @rain_networks to see if there is an update.

I will be cancelling the service for other reasons. But the ping increase has been an issue yes.
I have just read -why dont you consider an inverter thats less expensive -these true solar is lank expensive -Inverter make more sense leaving u money for good internet. The 2-5ms latency is nice on fiber though -big plus

Hi @rain_networks, Glad to see the ping issue is resolved somewhere, what about Pretoria though? any idea when it will be fixed?
Also @nad_isa do you mind posting your updated speed test for the premium please?
I am thinking of getting premium because I have the standard one but I took a break after I saw my ping increase because I want the switch to be worth it. I mostly use my internet for streaming, a lil bit of download but more of online gaming which is why I care about ping and jitter.
I used to constantly have a ping of 14ms and a jitter of 1ms but now it became crazy and sometimes it even goes as bad as 74ms for the ping.

here are my signal and speed test info as well as my tower details...

Lucky you man @powermzii, I used to be there in terms of ping and jitter but now it's as bad as you saw up there! I hope they fix it soon! Did you previously have a ping increase though?

There was a slight increase yes but I barely noticed as most of my usage isn't as latency sensitive. Fwiw I did another speed test about 5min later on speedtest.co.za and ping was 23 with speeds at 270 up and 25 down...

Hope your ping gets resolved soon

So my CPE is connected to god knows where, 285.73km from my place in Polokwane, with the nearest 5g tower located at 0.52km and 3.1km from my location. First the upload speeds took a hit, now the downloads are taking a huge hit.

A reply I received from rain after I asked what could be happening -

yip, just heard back. The base station was vandalized for a 4th time, this time they have stolen everything and destroyed the site. We are busy rebuilding and expect it to take at least a week as we need Eskom to come and assist with new power cables. The reason for the low speed is because you are now connecting to a tower far away to give you service. Sorry, but thats the situation.

So I drove to the 2 towers in my area to see what is going on and everything seems to be fine, no sign of any damage to the 2 locations. On the brink of saying goodbye to rain, R999 every month and all we get is "Sorry, but thats the situation."

yes the fibre deal is just too good to pass on at the moment. Yes looking at various options, just reseach at the moment. most likely do it in stages. but yes you can get lost in it all. need to keep your head straight lol
