Rain and storm for Cpt

Had some damage. A big branch from a willow tree fell on my carport. Fortunately my car that would've been park there was parked overnight at Glasfit to replace the windscreen.

One of the beams broke and fell where the car would've been parked.

Just picked up the car and there's just about enough space without parking it directly under the damaged section.

Ah, the problem with living in leafy suburb is all the mess in the road right about now!!! :p

A tree fell over in Spaanschmat Road. Of course, the council is useless and so it was left up to an enterprising entrepreneur who has expertise in cutting trees down to move the log out of the way last night in the pouring rain. Also noticed some robots are out along the M3. Should really be getting fixed pronto.

Lots of water in stellenbosch. Raining quite a lot.

Nice pics! The runoff from Dwarsberg (Jonkershoek) and associated mountain ranges goes in three different directions: Eerste River goes into the sea, to the north goes into Berg River Dam, to the east goes into Theewaterskloof. The mountaintops had more than 100mm, as noted by @air this morning.

Not the first time the carport saved my cars from potential damage. I put it up myself about 6 years ago.

This is what's still left on top of the carport. Insurance assessor will be here on Monday and I will take it off afterwards.

A motorist escaped serious injury on Saturday morning after a rockslide at Franschhoek Pass during rainy weather.

Marc Thackwray, 28, suffered a few bumps and scratches but was otherwise uninjured after massive boulders rained down on his car.

"He and his stepfather had been driving from Struisbaai down the mountain and his step-dad had his wits about him because when he saw rocks falling, he apparently said hold on and slammed on the brakes."

The men apparently then jumped out the vehicle.

A big boulder apparently fell on the front bonnet first and swung the vehicle around, before another boulder hit the back door of the vehicle on the passenger side.

Medium intensity storms coming, but at least they are more frequent, so the weekly rainfall looks better.

The storm predicted for Sun 30th may intensify significantly, there is still considerable uncertainty in the models:

There will be strong winds tomorrow afternoon (Thurs 27th), though the warnings are not as scary as last week:
The SA Weather Service forecasts winds of between 65 and 80km/h from Thursday afternoon, with a potential of winds reaching 85km/h, easing off tomorrow night. These strong to gale force winds may result in coastal and other infrastructure damage.

A fast-moving cold front passed over Cape Town during the middle of the night. Although it seems dry now (6am), there was some heavy rain between 10pm and 1am. Showers are likely to linger for most of this morning (Fri 28th).

Edit: 19mm in our gauge in Kenilworth up to 8am.

The SAEON Constantiaberg (CT) weather station recorded 31.5mm during the 3 hours from 9pm to midnight, though the rain stopped soon after. SAEON Dwarsberg recorded a bit more than that.

All models and forecasts indicate widespread rain during the afternoon and evening of Sun 30th.

The month of June may still get close to average rainfall (at least around the Cape Metropole and dam catchments).

Another cold front is predcted for Tues 2nd, but after that looks relatively dry again for a while.

Well I'm in Constantia and we got a helluva more wind than rain! It was furious!

Bet theirs a fair number of broken windows and damage, debris/branches scattered along Spaanschemat drive...

Yeah also live in Constantia, not looking forward to driving to work in around 15 minutes! But the rain was pretty heavy from 10pm onwards.
