Rain and storm for Cpt

Office has a flat roof and I can almost swear on the fact that from the time I arrived at just after 7am until I left at 4pm, I didn't not once hear the sound of rain falling on it. Just didn't let up...
 
The rainfall rate definitely abated somewhat in the west, although it was still raining a lot longer than I expected (about 5pm in Rondebosch), the rain did stop eventually! The last-minute model forecasts indicated much higher totals than earlier predicted, or at least a longer period of rain in a narrow belt.

We had another 25mm in our gauge in Kenilworth, in addition to the roughly 50mm that fell before 8am (the gauge overflowed!) My cousin's house had about 45mm and 20mm during the same time periods.

The SAEON Constantiaberg mountain station recorded 82mm (up to midnight), and the Dwarsberg (Jonkershoek) mountain catchment recorded a phenomenal 187mm.

I had not expected much runoff, given the relatively dry soil over the last few weeks, but the sheer volume of water had to go somewhere:
- The Berg River Dam inflow rate briefly surpassed the annual flood level of 146m^3/sec, though it abated soon afterwards.
- The Berg River Dam breached 100% during the afternoon, and was up more than 4% in one day, currently sitting at 101.5%.

Best year for Dwarsberg/JHK for the last 6 years and still more rain in come :)
Currently sitting on 2637mm(unverified).

Yesterday's 187.2mm exceeded the other significant daily number that occurred on 23JUL2019 of 186.9mm.

Looks like more to come on Sunday afternoon and Monday, great end to OCT(currently 274mm) - which is also the best OCT for last 6 years.

Keen to see weekly dam numbers on Monday :)
 
Some interesting rainfall numbers from the SAWS for the 24 hours to 8am on Sat 26th: http://www.weathersa.co.za/images/data/climate/nr_daily_rai.pdf

Highest include Villiersdorp 77mm, Hermanus 55mm, Strand 48mm, Kirstenbosch 35mm, Paarl 35mm, SAAO Observatory 34mm, Wellington 28mm, Molteno Reservoir (CBD) 27mm, Ceres 26mm, Porterville 25mm, etc. Places further inland (and further east) received much less rain, as this was a very localised weather event.

Cumulative 48 hour totals were quite impressive: Kirstenbosch 119mm, Strand 69mm, Molteno Reservoir (CBD) 60mm.

So um guys...I know you had that drought thing going a while back but strickly speaking winter is over and it's out turn now to get rain...would you mind not trapping the rain over there and let it come north so we can have our turn?

So um, maybe send your location? You in the Northen Cape?
