Rain and storm for Cpt

Thanks for the various snow photos! I can't see anything from Kenilworth, but there is probably light dusting of snow on Table Mountain this morning, with the freezing level currently around 1200m.

The temperature on the SAEON Dwarsberg (Jonkershoek) mountain catchment station is currently 0.7C, and 9C at Cape Town Airport (11am). The Dwarsberg rain gauge stopped recording at 4am, which means it is probably frozen solid.

Edit: The temperature on Constantiaberg (which is just slightly lower than Table Mountain) is currently 1.7C.

There was some light hail a few minutes ago in Kenilworth.

Was raining down heavily just after I finished my morning coffee after completing my morning run at around 8.30am -- a rather unpleasant 30min walk back home.

Do you think it might snow on Table Mountain tonight? I will be up there tomorrow morning for the day

Lots of hail on Table Mountain this morning, no snow that we saw. Little sleet near Maclears around 8am

Dunno maybe I'm sleepy but it hasn't been that cold in Rondebosch this morning. Was out walking this morning. All this snow news is a bit of a surprise. Probably drop more later.

Edit: I was able to see some of the snow on the Helderberg and Stellenbosch mountains from Kenilworth (through binoculars).

The precipitation is clearing slowly from the west, so unlikely to be further snow tonight (at least on Table Mt).

A personal report from Ceres indicates that there are masses of snow this afternoon.

Another cold-front is likely to reach Cape Town on Mon 31st. This may develop into a cutoff-low along the southern coast on Tues 1st, potentially bringing rain to the Garden Route, and snow over the Drakensberg on Wed 2nd.

I just took a walk to Main Rd Somerset West and can honestly say that in the last 35 plus years I have lived in Helderberg I have never seen this much snow on our mountains here :oops:
