Rain and storm for Cpt

Seems unseasonably late in the year for rain? Or am I wrong?

During the 2017 drought, it was pointed out that 20% of Cape Town's rain falls between September and December, so it's not entirely unseasonal. The average drops pretty sharply around 1 Nov, so I don't expect too much more rain. Having said that, another cold front is due on Thurs 4th.

Here we go again
4th time today

About an hour ago, as I'm working, I hear water dripping furiously and thought my geyser burst or something.
Then heard it was from the gutter.

Light showers down here in the South and never heard it came down, but it's dripping and wet everywhere.

Weak fronts often pass CT during the summer, and are barely mentioned in the forecasts. Even the wind direction doesn't change much, and it's just some light drizzle near the mountains. Offshore charts definitely showed a bit more rain.

A surprisingly heavy (but short lived) shower in Kenilworth. This is a rather unusual system, with elements of a surface low and light NW, together with upper instability. As the surface high ridges in, a weak cutoff low will develop, with most of the precipitation offshore. Models are not good at predicting the small scale features of this event.

7.5mm in gauge in Kenilworth already, definitely more than I expected! Dry now, but not sure about the rest of the day...
Forecast was 80%+ from 9am tapering off mid afternoon, but no sign of any further rain for last hour here in Meadowridge, just thick low cloud...

Models are good at predicting specific features such as cold-fronts, much less so for scattered rain conditions. You only have to check the Gauteng thread to see how fickle thundershowers are...

Just had a short unexpected downpour , and has now clouded over significantly again ... there was sun and blue skies breaking through , no doubt it'll be an on off affair for a while yet. Temp is also on cooler side today, 17C?

Pelting down since 2pm.. very odd weather I must say for mid November!
Will it be the last for today?!
Rather enjoying the break from the oppressive humidity of late.
