Rain and storm for Cpt

Jirreeeeee my recently repaired garage roof is looking.

And now my study window is leaking (while closed) and all over my new drill and xbox controller. The rain is blowing sideways at full force, like I hosepipe consistently for 20 minutes.

I stay in a cul-de-sac and it's a giant swimming pool. I think the house at the bottom end is at risk of being flooded.

Yip. neighbours garage will be flooded and looks like car is at exhaust level. Green lines are were roads are (park in between). Now one big dam. My driveway is at ankle level. House is raised a bit and shouldn't be affected too bad. Perhaps my garage.

Was on the ladder cleaning the gutters on Saturday. What a nightmare. Took buckets of stuff out. Was worth it though. No overflowing this time.

Just checked rain gauge in Kenilworth, another 35mm overnight. Cumulative total 140mm. I slept like a log, so didn't notice any thunder or hail...

The rainfall intensity has increased (witching from frontal to convective), but the frequency is more intermittent (showery), so the cumulative total today (Tuesday) will be less than yesterday (at least near the mountain). I know it feels like it will never end, but we are in the last phase of this event (at least until the snow arrives...)

Got woken up about 3 or 4 times from the rain last night. Can't remember the last time it poured down that hard.

As I learnt from @Gordon_R, the initial rains won't make a big difference to dam levels since all the runoff water is absorbed into the dry soil. However once, the soil gets saturated, that's when runoff starts to increase the levels. I don't doubt though, that this rain will go a long way to getting that process going.

One of the more interesting charts is one not feeding into a dam, but the Lourens River at Strand. This has been above the annual flood level of 11m^3/sec since midday on Monday:

I just spotted a patch of blue sky to the SW, so today may not be a total washout! With a gap in the clouds I am able to see the impressive waterfalls on Table Mt (not exactly torrents due to the extended duration of this storm). I was planning to stay in bed all day (since I don't have much wet-weather gear), but may venture out to explore the 'damage'...
