Because the weather forecast got our hopes up.

Just heard thunder...
 
Light spots of rain, weak rumble of thunder, then a brief shower in Rondebosch. Not expecting much for CT, but this is the likely outlook for today. Significantly heavier storms are likely inland today, and along the Garden Route on Sat 17th.

You cant fart against thunder. If the normal weather pattern is disrupted by unseasonal events such as cut-off lows and the displacement of the South Atlantic high-pressure zone, then rain in the off-season is inevitable.

Besides, as I am now a permanent resident in Vredekloof, take it as a given, it is going to rain in Vredekloof every year from now on, on the 16th. Heh, heh.

And rain in the off-season means... are you guys like farmers? or maybe you have a roofing or house painting business? One can play rugby in the rain.

It means I would have enough water stored for washing and other chores to get me to next winter.

My budding veggie patch is doing very well thank you! Bring it on, the more rain we get the better.
 
Helderberg today is a clouded and humid place. There was a slight sprinkle earlier which can hardly be said as drizzle. No thunder other than those wannabe racers klapping their VWs.

No, that's great. It's just that when I see these headlines I think of them as being alarmist. Good for you. A bit of rain didn't hurt anybody.
 
Based on the AAO index, the current rain pattern is not going to change anytime soon either.

The daily AAO indices are shown for the previous 120 days, and the GFS forecasts of the daily AAO index at selected lead times are appended onto the time series. The indices are standardized by standard deviation of the observed monthly AO index from 1979-2000. A 3-day running mean is applied to the forecast time series.

The values at the upper left and right corner of each figure indicate the mean value of the AAO index and the correlation coefficients between the observation and the forecasts, respectively.
