Lots of very heavy rain here in Vredekloof. Such large drops. Sounded like hail. Tonight the frogs are croaking! My mom says it must be more than 10 years since she last heard frogs croaking in this area.

Numerous model runs show a cold, wet and windy week for Cape Town and the SW-Cape, starting overnight on Sun 20th, with snow likely over the mountains by the middle of the week. The exact details are messy, and will evolve closer to the time, but these charts give some idea of the outlook:

Rather heavy rain in Kenilworth, with 33mm in our gauge this morning. There was a sudden downpour just before 7am, but it is likely to be less rainy during the day.
There were very strong wind gusts late on Sunday afternoon, ahead of the cold front. This morning feels a lot quieter, but clouds are likely to persist for most of the day.
The next cold front will arrive later on Tues 22nd, with a gap between Wed 23rd and Thurs 24th, and another front on Fri 25th. Temperatures will be below average for the whole week.

Relentless orographic rain in Kenilworth (with driving westerly wind), 23mm in our gauge up to 3pm. Higher amount than predicted, and more to come later. Probably much less away from the mountains, and further inland.
Edit: It rained literally the whole day in Kenilworth, but the main front arrived around 5pm (as noted on the Milnerton webcam).
Edit: Another 40mm in our gauge in Kenilworth between 3pm and 8pm, about 60mm so far. One of the wettest days in recent weeks (since the June deluges).

The SAEON Dwarsberg (Jonkershoek) mountain catchment station recorded a phenomenal 112mm up to midnight. That is serious orographic rainfall...

Highest were Villiersdorp 71mm, Kirstenbosch 58mm, Ceres 37mm, etc.

got at least 75% of that in the Winelands region yesterday... pissing rain, but the wind factor was hectic.

The wind is a huge factor in orographic rainfall. The models will say 20mm, which is perfectly average for flat and level terrain, or for non-windy conditions. However windward mountain slopes will trap the rain, and record 2-3 times the forecast amounts.
