Accuweather predicted 80% thunder showers from approx. 6pm for Brackenfell. Seems pretty spot on....

Shucks buddy! That's bad. When I heard the hail and got up my wife came running down the stairs saying someone at her work got an SMS from Outsurance saying hail is coming and you need to park your cars in the garage - which we do not have. I grabbed a blanket and covered the sunroof, then we both took our cars and parked under the neighbors afdak (he is away for work). I really did not expect the hail to be this big. By the time I could take pics they had melted quite a bit.





Thankfully the Astra and 407 did not get any damage. I dread what the cost will be if the sunroof on my car gets buggered.

My daughter was picking up hailstones and rescued this little guy on the astroturf.

No weather model can capture the small-scale features of rapidly developing thunderstorms.

Radar can show near-real time (5 minute) updates, but the outlook fades after 20-30 mins.

P.S. Some nice cloud-to-ground lightning flashes over the CBD at 9:45pm.

I was a bit retarded, was so amazed at the water coming down it took me a while to realize the size of the hail. Saw this morning the passat also has a few dents, couldn't see this last night.
