Looks like the main front will pass over CT late Friday early Saturday. Very little rain though, slightly more in the mountains.

Yep! These cutoff-lows can be very tantalising in the early model runs, but more often than not they fizzle as the time comes closer...
 
The cricket god and the rain god must have had an arm wrestling contest. ..... The cricket god won. The latest runs show nothing over the weekend. It has all evaporated into thin air ....

It is going to be interesting what the forecaster on e-tv and SABC has to say tonight! Seeing that both announced some rain for the weekend in CT.

In a statement, the SA Weather Service said, “The combination of onshore flow along our southern and south-eastern coastline, together with a well-defined upper air system is expected to deliver significant rainfall over parts of the Western and Eastern Cape on Saturday and Sunday.

“It is only towards Friday, when a weak cold front arrives over Cape Town, when the prevailing weather pattern will begin to change significantly. Acknowledging that the south-western part of Western Cape is particularly drought-stricken, it bears mentioning that the particular rain system (which is expected to bring significant or heavy rain to many parts of the Cape provinces) is NOT EXPECTED to provide much relief for the Cape Peninsula and Boland regions. In fact, this system will barely deliver 10 to 15 mm of rain for the Cape Metropole.”

The cold front on Friday will make landfall over the western extremity of Western Cape, introducing some cooling as well as light rainfall for the Peninsula.

“On Saturday, overcast, cold and rainy weather is expected to dominate the southern coastline and southern mountains of Western and Eastern Cape respectively,” the statement read.

That is the same as the runs I did this morning . Interestingly, the SABC weatherman still shows more or less the same position on this evening's weather report. Windy showed a completely divergent result when I ran it earlier this evening, also using the ECMWF model. Will run the models again later on. The former reports are more consistent with what ahs been showing up in the models all week.

E-tv weather agrees with the SABC view. Rain expected over CT from late Friday nigh through to Sunday, which is consistent with what was the view this morning on other models..

So this morning we are back to expecting rain tonight over CT and rain tomorrow and a bit on Sunday. SABC says fog in the morning and e-tv says light rain?

Some of the public domain models show every erratic results from minute to the next. The more professional models are better at averaging out inconsistencies.
 
It's was apparently raining in paarl an.hour or so ago. Bone dry here in stellenbosch.
 
We compare three different websites here in the office, for local weather and Cape Town weather, all three give different results.... rain, mist and dry for CPT.... they even reckon we will be getting rain here in the desert tomorrow, Yet for the entire week, rain was nowhere to be seen.... suddenly appeared on the weather report this morning...

Sigh! What to do! ;)

The main front is still coming. It is likely to reach CT between 4-7pm this afternoon. However, it is likely to miss the Northern suburbs, and only bring light showers to the Cape Peninsula, and Overberg.

I can see precipitation on the CT radar (2.45pm), but it is currently 30-50km offshore, and headed west-east (not towards land).
