We are both casual experts, though I have a bit more hands on experience. The main difference is that Geoff was born in CT and lives in Pta and has family in CT, while I have lived in CT my whole life. Different priorities and expectations about weather...
 
Been away in an area with really bad connectivity so a little bit out of touch with matters relating to weather ...

The current rain that was measured in CT precedes the main frontal system though.

Agree the expectation is rather low, but still an indicator of a season change , moving into autumn.

Constantia berg has had over 10 mm so far today ?

Nice misty rain falling. Was soaked by the time I got back from my run. Nothing for the dams, but the gardens and JoJo tanks will be smiling and it has given Cape Town a very Wintery feel which is always welcome.
 
Yesterday's front produced mostly coastal and orographic rain. The SAEON Constantiaberg station reported 24mm and SAEON Dwarsberg reported 15mm. By contrast we recorded just 4.5mm in Kenilworth, which is normally one of the wetter suburbs.

As the front moves eastwards, it will encounter tropical moisture over the Eastern Cape, triggering rather heavy rainfall, with 50mm+ possible in places along the Wild Coast later today.

Edit: Forgot to mention that very cold conditions will move in along the entire southern half of SA during the next two days. Several forecasts are showing light snow for the highest peaks in the Drakensberg tomorrow (Fri 16th).

Yeah, just took a piss in the back yard right now, good rainfall but I can still see the light on Bottelary hills about 10K away so nothing too serious,
