I think it is runoff but there are a few streams that cross there. The river has just taken a different path.

Saw a vid doing the rounds of Rondebosch golf course. It's basically one big water hazard.

Half of the Rondebosch Golf Course is within the 50 year flood plain of the Black River. One of these housing protest groups wanted to build there, but were told the hard facts...

This morning's runoff into the Berg River Dam exceeded 100m^3/sec, and the level smashed 101% of capacity by midday today (Tues 9th), up from 95% on Mon 8th.

This morning's rain was the highest sustained intensity, but the cumulative rainfall for the rest of the week will be almost as much as today. I'm still predicting close to 200mm for the week (more over the mountains, and already breached that in Kenilworth).
SAEON Dwarsberg has already reached about 150mm for today alone. Half of that goes into the Berg River, and the other half into Theewaterskloof.
Pity the Bergrivier canoe marathon ended on Saturday.
On a serious note, looks like Val de Vie and all the developments along the Bergrivier is in for a beating again.

It is safer to paddle when the river is not at flood stage. Many years ago one of my colleagues got stuck under a tree, and she drowned.
