Nope as a kid at school in Milnerton and living in Bloubergstrand, this was an every winter occurrence. and for weeks on end and more than a few times every winter. So, this is not strange at all for CT. It is what the cape is/was known for.

I was chatting to some Schindler lift technicians yesterday, and the one guy said the worst was the Disa Towers (pepperpots in front of Devil's Peak). Open roof with safety chain to get to the motor room. Nope...

Our 6 storey building in Kenilworth has a waist-high balustrade on the roof. Yesterday was 'interesting'...

Did I tell you about the time the lid of one of our water tanks was left loose?

P.S. The technician also said that improperly secured solar panels have a tendency to go airborne...

Another 50mm+ overnight in our gauge in Kenilworth. Brief gap in the rain now.

Theewaterskloof rose by another 6% to 83% this morning (Thurs 11th)!

The Berg River Dam is already 105% full (gauge seems stuck), but inflows reached 100m^/sec again, and outflows are 180m^3/sec. Flow rates in the middle Berg River are reaching ominous levels...

Voelvlei is rising at the (constrained maximum) of 2% per day, and has reached 69%.

P.S. My ADSL line has been struggling this morning (yes I'm old school). Probably cables are wet...

As someone from Gauteng originally I am not complaining.
This weather as I understand it is normal in CT, except in the last few years or so has been lacking more and more due to climate change
I do think people lately are soft- Schools were closed, and even some local businesses too. Yet some of us drove into work as per normal.
