The SAWS reports moderate rainfall during the 24 hours to 8am on Thurs 11th: https://www.weathersa.co.za/images/data/climate/nr_daily_rai.pdf
Highest include Kirstenbosch 79mm, Grabouw 71mm, Paarl 37mm, etc. Areas away from the mountains received significantly less rain, but the cumulative totals do add up.

Ah its just loaded the 11th now, maybe I had a cashed version in the browzer for 10th.
Forcast for storm was that it was still going to rain quite a bit for rest of day in the mountains, so rainfall figures tomorrow might give a better indication of rainfall after 8am today. 80mm for Kbosch, and 70 for Grabouw

Interesting that the wind strength up here on High Level Road, Sea Point has been nowhere near as fierce as predicted, moderate at worst and hardly any wind of note the last few days....yes it faces West and not directly North or NW but would have expected far stronger seeing as we face the ocean and winter storms arrive from N or NW directions so should receive the initial brunt.
Could be the damping effect of all the houses built up on the hill, or the ridge itself... strange, although not complaining!!

After a two day gap, the CoCT has finally updated (6am on Thurs 11th) the dam levels for the major catchments: https://www.capetown.gov.za/Family ...and-sanitation-services/this-weeks-dam-levels
The Berg River dam is at 107%, which slightly distorts the figures. Theewaterskloof jumped from 70% to 83%. Voelvlei is the laggard, up from 62% to 68%. The average jumped from 74% to 85%.
A few days ago I predicted that the average would reach 80% by the end of July. Looks like that was a wild underestimate...

Highest include Ceres 293mm, Grabouw 289mm, Paarl 254mm, Jonkershoek 250mm, SAAO Observatory 170mm, Bellville 160mm, Tulbagh 158mm, Algeria (Cederberg) 150mm, Wellington 150mm, etc. Many others were in excess of 100mm, though these are usually wetter than average. Amounts in the Little Karoo and Garden Route were negligible.

I imagine all these people remember having to swim to school all winter. Next year we'll hear the same stories about how these storms were an everyday occurrence back in the day.
This clearly was not something that occurred every time it rained.
Maybe if they were born this last summer. Otherwise there are similar storms that have happened almost every year. They even occasionally occurred in summer.
Bad news for us in the Banhoek valley:

We regret to inform you that the bulk water pipeline feeding the Dwarsrivier area, Soms Delta, Allee Blue and surrounding farms has been washed away due to the recent heavy rainfall. As a result, there will be disruptions to your water supply.
Currently, the reservoirs servicing the Dwarsrivier area still have sufficient capacity to provide water for approximately 2 days however this duration may vary depending on water usage.
We have initiated an emergency pipeline project to restore the water supply as quickly as possible. Our team is working diligently to complete this project and minimize the impact on your daily water needs.
The situation will be monitored and alternative water will be provided if the need arise.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time. We will keep you informed of any significant developments.

Sounds like the Southern Suburbs got hit harder by last nights storm than us here in the north.
Todays weather was definitely not as bad as expected, normal rainy winters day, kids could have gone to school, Tuesday was much worst.

Unlike last year, at least I didn't have to swim once I got off my bed.
It was a bit of an anticlimax, since I went to bed with my fishing waders

Was semi-dry for many hours in Kenilworth, but started bucketing down at 3:15.
It would have been fine to go to school in our area (my neighbour had the day off), but the exact timing of the wind and rain is hard to predict a whole day in advance.
