Rain and storm for Cpt

The next pattern coming in will be the same as last week. A weather front caused by a low pressure area bringing in some rain from the north west followed by a cold front. Hopefully this will be a bit more likely to provide some rain. This one is after the cold front that will skim past the country tomorrow and Saturday.
 
I don't recall any serious late season rainfall other than infrequent Heavy northwest storm usually occurring on average 1-3 times in August-These are the big storms that ground ships, drop walls, etc but they don't provide the incessant week long rain sessions of a few years back which are needed to start refilling dams. These current weekly overnight fronts just aren't doing the job as anyone can see. Anybody other than the COCT it seems.
People not aware of our weather system think after the roughly accumulative 6 or 10 days of rain we ve had to date factor in the cloudy days and the freezing temps and think we ve got enough water from the rain so revert to pre drought behaviors. That's not good.
 
Unfortunately you are correct. The rainfall that CT gets is NOT indicative of what is happening in the catchment areas of the major dams. But that is what drives the publics perceptions, which will lead to a heavy handed approach from the authorities affecting all who live in the affecting areas.
 
Very disappointing outcome of the fronts that have just passed/reached western cape.
The next pattern seems to be further north and thus may be more promising for rain.
 
I hope this is a wet week ahead. Super delighted that tomorrow is going to be an epic sunshine Sunday.

Hope so too. We got rain forecast for Tuesday / Wednesday and possibly Thursday - albeit not a lot, at least it's something.

I miss the typical Cape winter consisting of days of constant downpour. :(
 
The first possible rain could be caused by a low pressure area extending South down the coast from the North. Morty might even get some rain from that weather front. Then the cold front moves in from the West, bringing cold wet weather. Moving a lot slower this time so may linger longer.

Rain in the desert is something really special, but sadly lacking of late..... for a brief moment I was excited by your comments and rushed over to the weather bookmark.... only to feel let down..... :D

Throughout the 60's and 70's , our average rainfall on this spot was around 21mm per year..... that all started to change in the late 80's..... The weather gone south.....

We get rain from two sides, when it reaches us.... firstly any massive Cape Cold front that has a long enough tail can bring rain for a few hours and then during the summer months, on the odd occasions the thunder clouds spill over from the interior and bring warm rain...... but this has failed over the last few years....

There is no rain predicted anywhere close to Namibia. I don't know where Goeff.D keeps getting his info from.

We still got a bit of rain about two hours direct due south of you
I think it's as you say the tail end of the fronts but yes it was always no less 21 mm pa average
Otherwise flowers don't open much for spring
Let's hope there's more to at least fill the cisterns
