What do you want to know..? What are you planning to measure..?

Have one, measure indoor/outdoor temp and humidity.. rain accumulation and wind speed and direction..

However, it's a closed ecosystem and there is no capturing of data for long term data storage.. 24 hour history at most..

Thanks for raising some of the important decision makers.

Temperature, wind and humidity would be fine, but it would be cool to track & learn more about other barometric/atmospheric statistics.

I have a cheap Xiaomi temp/hygrometer inside, so I would be more interested in outdoor conditions. But if there’s both, then perfect.

No problem with ecosystem, but iOS integration would be great.

Longer tracking would be nice.

Don’t mind spending. But would like something durable and accurate.

And when I said closed ecosystem, I really meant exactly that.. instruments interface with the display unit and that's that, no app, no nothing.. it's the biggest limitation..

My personal opinion and what I will be looking into, is instruments that can integrate with something like a ZigBee and then pull into home assistant for proper data logging and more options on terms of displaying real time data..
 
I miss the old school barometers
The one where you turn the dial so that the pointer thingy is over the other thingy
Then you tap the glass with your finger and see which way the dial moves, left or right
Those were awesome
I bet Gordy still has one

Have this cheapo from ebay. Not sure it's calibrated correctly.

Doubt you will see a zigbee weather station.

The expensive ones I saw on weather underground for integration there, seems like they have a lan based controller to which the station connects and this controller then connects to the internet. Basically a gateway for the weather station.

So at best, I would say is to look for something like that which has home assistant support.

Barometers and thermometers are usually well calibrated, though the 'descriptions' on the dial are pretty much fiction. Hygrometers (humidity) are less calibrated and not very accurate. Mine is an old family heirloom (without the humidity dial).

There is one project I saw on HA website for DIY weather station with a ZigBee device.. quite involved but, does work..

Other options I have seen, is weewx, python based with a USB radio device that can interface with most of the common closed ecosystem weather stations which, operates at 433Mhz, and has HA integration..

Have you tried looking at the wireless data? 433Mhz so it's most probably a string that gets sent every couple of seconds, doubt it is encrypted.

Is your hardware not supported in weewx? I don't see anything on the website about the hardware device. I would basically just add a RF receiver to a Wemos and start looking at the signal if it is not supported.

I have not gone down the rabbit hole just yet.. just high level looking research.. weewx from what I understand has a hardware usb device which is the radio receiver and the python code behind it then does the heavy lifting to read data from weather stations and translate into something HA would be able to understand..

My weather station might be supported, though is not listed there.. manufacturers would often use the same underlying hardware and protocols for a range of different models, so I would actually need to test it to be sure..

At the moment, this looks like a significant time investment and I can't justify that time investment just yet..

Great info here guys. Perhaps a new thread? Personally I'm looking for something that is more plug & play, just don't have the time to go down this rabbit hole.

Pretty sure there is already a weather station thread somewhere, maybe @WAslayer can be kind enough to show the way
